What are some common challenges Full Time Engineers face when working on cross-functional teams?

Full Time Engineers often collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers, which can lead to challenges such as aligning on priorities, communication gaps, and balancing technical feasibility with business goals. Navigating these dynamics requires strong communication skills and the ability to advocate for technical needs while remaining flexible. Regular stand-ups, clear documentation, and open feedback channels can help mitigate these challenges and ensure successful project outcomes.

What is a Full Time Engineer?

A Full Time Engineer is a professional employed by an organization to work a standard number of hours per week, usually 35-40, focusing on engineering tasks related to their field. Their responsibilities typically include designing, developing, testing, and maintaining systems, products, or software. Full Time Engineers may work in various industries such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering. They often collaborate with teams, contribute to projects, and ensure that technical standards and deadlines are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant engineering degree such as a B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering. Proficiency in technical tools like CAD software, MATLAB, or programming languages, as well as certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) or industry-specific credentials, is often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability are essential soft skills that help engineers collaborate and innovate effectively. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering high-quality solutions, meeting project goals, and advancing within a technical and collaborative environment.

Job description

Req ID:514939

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling, and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time Engineering Quality Manager in Saint Bruno we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your quality management expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dynamic and collaborative teammates.

You'll play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our engineering deliverables, making a significant impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of our processes. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams across the business (Quality organization, Engineering teams, Platform teams, and process correspondents), perform inspections and audits, and support continuous improvement initiatives, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of promoting and ensuring adherence to our engineering processes and standards, but also lead Return of Experience (REX) initiatives to enhance engineering practices and reduce non-quality costs.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Ensuring that applicable processes and standards are known and applied by engineering teams
  • Supporting engineering audits and inspections to check adherence to processes and standards
  • Challenging engineering strategies and reviewing Engineering Management Plans
  • Ensuring deployment of Critical Item Assessment (CIA) or Critical Technical Topic (CTT) activities
  • Managing and resolving engineering quality issues, including design reviews and DFMEA activities
  • Leading improvements related to Return of Experience (REX) to enhance engineering standards and processes

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

Important to note

As a global business, we’re an equal-opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63 countries we operate in. We’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
