Job description

Marine Diesel Mechanic

Company: NYC Water Cruises
Location: New York City
Job Type: Full-Time

NYC Water Cruises is seeking an experienced Marine Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair the engines, generators, mechanical systems, and related equipment aboard our passenger vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain marine diesel engines and generators.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, inspections, and fluid checks.
  • Troubleshoot fuel, cooling, exhaust, hydraulic, electrical, and starting systems.
  • Inspect engine rooms and identify mechanical problems before they cause vessel downtime.
  • Repair or replace pumps, hoses, belts, batteries, starters, alternators, and other components.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records.
  • Respond quickly to emergency mechanical issues.
  • Keep tools, parts, and engine-room work areas organized and safe.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules with vessel captains and management.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and applicable marine regulations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience repairing diesel engines is required.
  • Marine diesel or commercial vessel experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, generators, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pumps.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems independently.
  • Must be comfortable working in engine rooms and confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Must be dependable, organized, and available for occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency repairs.
  • Valid driver’s license is preferred.
  • Relevant mechanical or marine certifications are a plus.
