Title: Engineer III / IV – Energy Storage
Location: Denver, CO (Preferred) | Minneapolis, MN | Fargo, ND | San Antonio, TX
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Salary: Engineer III: $108,700–$146,700 | Engineer IV: $122,500–$183,800 (Higher salary ranges available in select markets.)

Sterling Engineering is looking for an Engineer III / IV – Energy Storage. This opportunity is with a leading engineering and construction organization supporting utility-scale renewable energy, substations, and energy storage projects across the United States.

Job Duties:
  • Support the engineering and design of utility-scale energy storage systems, substations, and renewable energy projects up to 500kV.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed engineering packages while supporting Engineer of Record design efforts.
  • Design utility-scale substations and energy storage systems using the latest technologies.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineering teams, designers, and customers throughout project execution.
  • Perform engineering calculations, studies, technical evaluations, and quality control reviews.
  • Prepare technical specifications and construction design packages.
  • Review vendor quotations and assist with equipment selection.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on design projects.
  • Support proposals, estimating, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Verify construction aligns with engineering design documents and QA/QC requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety requirements.
  • Travel up to 30% as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program preferred.
  • Engineer III: 4+ years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Engineer IV: 7+ years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience with utility power systems, substations, energy storage, solar, wind, or transmission & distribution projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design, QA/QC procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Experience with power system equipment including substations, transformers, switchgear, inverters, and battery energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, CYMCAP, CDEGS, Procore, or similar tools.
  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to research engineering issues, evaluate alternatives, and present technical recommendations.
