FreedomPay is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who has extensive experience with hypervisors, virtual machines, and hybrid cloud data center environments. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining on‑premises data center infrastructure such as physical and virtual compute, load balancers, operating systems, and related hardware.

  • This position participates in an engineering escalation on‑call rotation.
  • This position is a hybrid role, with occasional on‑site work in the Philadelphia area (must be currently local to Philadelphia, relocation assistance not available)
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise hypervisor environments, including Broadcom vSphere ESXi, across multiple data centers
  • Build, configure, and support Windows Servers across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms
  • Maintain hardware and bare metal lifecycles by continuously reviewing and applying firmware and hypervisor updates
  • Respond on‑site to data center incidents, including routine visits for preventive or standard maintenance
  • Develop and maintain diagrams, runbooks, infrastructure documentation, and disaster recovery playbooks
  • Collaborate with network, security, and application DevOps teams to design, deploy, and maintain cohesive, integrated solutions
  • Drive continuous improvement in monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, MIS, or a related field; or relative hands-on experience demonstrating advanced proficiency in the field
  • 5+ years of proven expertise with Broadcom (VMware) vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter at scale
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with bare metal servers including the remote management, firmware and hardware updates, and advanced configuration management using tools such as intelligent Lights Out (iLO) and OneView
  • Advanced troubleshooting of hypervisor and virtual machine performance including the ability to review kernel, device, and operating system metrics and an ability to make informed decisions based on key performance indicators
  • Expert‑level administration of Windows servers, Active Directory, DNS, and related services such as NTP, GPO, and PKI
  • Advanced understanding of physical networking infrastructure, and firewalls including TCP/IP, UDP, VLAN, firewall rules; an ability to communicate systems connectivity requirements
  • Proficient with physical and virtual load balancers, F5 experience a plus
  • Proficient with cloud computing environments such as Azure or AWS
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient with scripting languages and automation tools including the use of AI
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools
  • Experience with change control processes
  • Experience with containerization and Linux operating systems a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Certifications with Microsoft and Broadcom/VMware are a plus
