Lower School Faculty - Swain Campus

Moravian Academy

Allentown, PA • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 3 days ago

Job description

MORAVIAN ACADEMY

Lower School Teacher

Full-Time • 10-Month • Swain Campus • Grades 1 - 5

In an elementary classroom, the stakes are both small and enormous. A child's first real experience of learning, it can be hard, surprising, joyful, and theirs - often begins with you. At Moravian Academy's Swain Campus, we're looking for a teacher who knows that.

You build classrooms that hum with purpose. You know that a child in second grade who discovers they can think carefully through a math problem or construct a written argument is building something that will outlast any specific skill; they're building an identity as a learner. You bring structure, warmth, and instructional rigor in equal measure.

In this full-time, 10-month position, you'll teach core subjects - including mathematics, language arts, and social studies - in a self-contained classroom for students in grades 1–5. You'll work with curricula including Singapore Math, Wilson Fundations, Fishtank ELA, and Inquiry Journeys, partner closely with specialist teachers and learning support staff, and maintain the kind of family communication that makes caregivers feel like partners, not observers. At Moravian Academy, an excellent lower school education is not preparation for something - it is something.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related field; master's preferred
  • Demonstrated experience teaching elementary-aged students in a classroom setting
  • Strong understanding of child development and evidence-based elementary instructional practice
  • Ability to design and deliver differentiated instruction for diverse learners
  • Skill in building a structured, caring, and motivating classroom community
  • Familiarity with Singapore Math, Wilson Fundations, Fishtank ELA, or Inquiry Journeys preferred
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education preferred
  • Experience in an independent school or college-preparatory setting preferred
  • Successful completion of required Pennsylvania background clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114) prior to start of employment

If this is the kind of teaching you do, we'd be glad to hear from you. Apply through Moravian Academy's employment portal.
