If you are a team player with a passion to drive your career in leading and growing our MEP Division, Popli Design Group (PDG) is the place for you!
This candidate will have the responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the Department, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection. This role requires strong communication skills to effectively engage with team leaders and the Vice President of Business Development and Strategy, holding each accountable for their respective responsibilities. The Director will actively drive the Business Development efforts and promote the growth of the Department. Participation in weekly and long-term Department meetings is expected. It is crucial for the Director to have a comprehensive understanding of the Department's S.W.O.T. (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) and to ensure the regular completion of essential divisional business tasks, such as managing the backlog and monthly billings.
Expectations:
The Director's primary role is to foster the growth of the division, both internally and with external clients, through direct engagement and collaboration with consultants. Building and maintaining relationships with key industry leaders is essential to drive business opportunities and benefit PDG. Additionally, the Director is responsible for forecasting and identifying when the division requires additional support. It should be acknowledged that roles and responsibilities may vary over time and may not always align precisely with the outlined expectations. Flexibility and adaptability are key in fulfilling the Director's overall responsibilities.
Financials:
  • Support the VP of Building Design Services (BDS) in the development of the Department budget
  • Maintains the Department backlog and recommends corrective actions
  • Reviews, develops and recommends corrections to the utilization
  • Supports the VP of BDS in the development of financial targets
  • Identifies potential issues with financial targets and recommends corrective actions
  • Holds accountable staff for timesheet submission
  • Ensures divisional billing reports are completed and returned and holds staff accountable if necessary
  • Review Project Manager timesheets of the division

Standards:
  • Supports the development & implementation of a BDS standard
  • Supports the development & implementation of a QA/QC process
  • Supports the development & implementation of Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Design Standards

Strategic Plan/Business Development:
  • Work with the VP of BDS to develop and maintain a strategic plan with 1, 5, and 10-year goals
  • Work with Team leaders to achieve the strategic plan goals
  • Strengthen local and regional relationships with owner clients and consultant clients
  • Identify strategic clients/projects to pursue
  • Attend local and state events beneficial to the growth of PDG
  • Attend tradeshows as necessary for the development of a market
  • Prepare, in conjunction with the marketing group, proposals

Staff Needs/Accountability
  • Host Bi-Monthly division meetings
  • Hold Team Leaders and Staff accountable
  • Deliver end of year salary performance and incentive comp to team leaders and for team members
  • Perform annual reviews of Team Leaders and set annual professional goals
  • Mentor Team Leaders to achieve their set goals
  • Work to create synergy between other divisional offices and team leaders
  • Be available for all major project related issues
  • Be available for all major staff related issues (personnel disputes, scheduling, utilization, etc)
  • Regular visits to remote offices where departmental staff are housed
  • Manage departmental training requirements
  • Relay company/professional development training needs (PM, presentation, Revit training, etc.) to VP of BDS
  • Maintain departmental long term staffing needs
  • Work with HR to perform departmental recruiting including review resumes, interviews, develop offers, fill out employee initiation forms, perform new hire tours, etc)

Requirements
Preferred Education, Certification & Experience:
  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Required)
  • 15+ Years of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering experience
  • A Valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is required.
