What is a full time editorial hair stylist?

A Full Time Editorial Hair Stylist is a professional who specializes in creating hairstyles for photo shoots, fashion shows, magazines, advertising campaigns, and other visual media. They collaborate closely with photographers, models, makeup artists, and designers to achieve a specific aesthetic or creative vision. Unlike salon stylists, editorial hair stylists often work on set, adapt quickly to changing requirements, and stay up-to-date with the latest hair trends. Their work is highly creative and often showcased in high-profile media outlets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time editorial hair stylist?

To thrive as a Full Time Editorial Hair Stylist, you need advanced hair styling techniques, a portfolio of editorial work, and often a cosmetology license. Familiarity with professional hair products, styling tools, and backstage protocols is essential, as is experience with photo shoot or runway settings. Creativity, adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure make someone stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality, on-trend looks and collaborating effectively with creative teams in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

What are some common challenges faced by a full time editorial hair stylist, and how can they be addressed?

Full Time Editorial Hair Stylists often work in fast-paced, creative environments where quick changes and tight deadlines are the norm. One common challenge is adapting hair designs to suit last-minute creative direction or unexpected changes during photo shoots or fashion shows. Stylists can address this by staying flexible, continuously updating their skills, and maintaining a well-stocked kit for on-the-spot adjustments. Building strong communication with photographers, makeup artists, and fashion stylists also helps ensure a smooth workflow and successful collaboration.

Job description

DESCRIPTION
✂ If You're a Talented Stylist Ready to Stop Settling and Start Thriving, We Need to Talk
What You'll Get
  • Real earning potential in the six figures, with leadership that helps you get there
  • Competitive pay: commission, hourly + tips, or guaranteed base + commission, depending on the right fit
  • Ongoing technical, professional, and mindset training
  • Editorial work, teaching, and mentoring opportunities for those who want them
  • 4-day work week with optional Sundays (If these days don't work, let's still talk ;))
  • 2 weeks paid vacation
  • A quarterly wellness bonus
  • A team that genuinely shows up for each other

Is This You?
You're skilled. You love your craft. You're ready for a place that matches your ambition.
You believe the best careers are built together, not alone. You want to grow, earn well, and be part of a team that has your back.
You're done with salons that don't invest in you, don't hold a standard, and don't make you proud to show up.
If that's you, keep reading.
The Real Situation
Hi, I'm Anna. I run Lola Hair Studio, a $1.4M award-winning salon with an amazing team and a culture I protect fiercely.
You don't get to six figures alone. Our top stylists get there by showing up for each other. When the salon wins, we all win.
We invest in our team differently: technical training, but also professional development and mindset work. Who you are matters as much as what you do behind the chair.
The Opportunity
Full-time chair, 34+ hours a week. Color, cuts, blowouts, balayage, highlights, extensions: whatever you love doing, you'll do it here.
Passionate about razor cutting or extensions? Huge plus.
Want more beyond the chair? We also offer editorial and photoshoot opportunities, in-salon education and teaching, and mentoring junior stylists. These are there if you want them, not required.
The Schedule
A 4-day work week with optional Sundays. Full-time income, built-in balance.
What We're Looking For
  • Valid Massachusetts cosmetology license
  • 2+ years of salon experience
  • Strong color and cutting skills; balayage and highlights are your happy place
  • Extensions experience preferred (not required); alternative hair solutions a plus
  • A love of fashion and style. You look and dress the part. Esthetics matter to us.
  • Someone who loves being part of a team and knows that "better together" is how six figures happens here

Who thrives at Lola: someone who takes pride in their work and their teammates, shows up, communicates, and wants to grow technically, professionally, and personally.
One Last Thing
The stylists here are talented, generous, growth-minded people who care about their craft and each other. The bar is high, and that's exactly why people love it here.
If this sounds like home, come find out.
Anna
P.S. Know someone perfect for this chair? Send them our way. The best people come through referrals.
