Earth Systems is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Special Inspector to join our team in San Luis Obispo.


Diverse projects, meeting various clientele and working independently give our Construction Special Inspectors a high level of job satisfaction. As a Construction Special Inspector, you will perform special inspections and material testing services documenting conformance with approved plans, specifications and contract documents.


Qualifications:

A Construction Special Inspector must have any one or any combination of the following certifications:

  • ICC Certified Special Inspectors for Reinforced Concrete strongly preferred.
  • ICC Certified Special Inspectors for Pre-stressed Concrete strongly preferred.
  • ICC Certified Special Inspectors for Structural Masonry strongly preferred.
  • ICC Certified Special Inspectors for Structural Steel and Bolting
  • ICC Certified Special Inspectors for Fireproofing
  • AWS CWI Certified Welding Inspectors strongly preferred.
  • NDT (Non-Destructive Testing)
  • Nuclear testing gauge, ACI, ICC and DSA certifications preferred.
  • Prior experience in construction materials testing or inspection required.
  • Prior experience working in geotechnical environment a plus. 
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft programs. 
  • Math, analytical, and writing skills are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey findings and collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced, outdoor environments.
  • A good work ethic, attention to detail, and a high level of personal integrity.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a clean driving record.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fieldwork and observation related to structural components such as reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel, post-tensioning, soils, grading, and other code-required elements.
  • Sampling, field testing, and special inspection of concrete and masonry, as well as related components such as reinforcing steel, epoxy bolts and anchors, etc.
  • Review project plans and specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare detailed special inspection reports which include daily field reports and formal reports in accordance with Earth Systems’ report protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve issues, communicating deficiencies promptly.
  • Demonstrate the company’s safety behaviors by following safety protocols and promoting a safety culture among team members.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Reliably commute or plan to relocate prior to starting work (Required)

The expected pay range for this position is $30.00-40.00. Exact rate is dependent on several factors such as experience, skills, education/certifications, and geographic location.


Employment conditioned upon the satisfactory completion of a post-offer background check, review of Motor Vehicle Records, drug screening, and a medical evaluation appropriate to the position.
