Their main responsibilities include transporting passengers or goods safely and efficiently, following scheduled routes or assignments. Full time drivers may also be responsible for vehicle maintenance, keeping records of their trips, and complying with traffic laws and company policies. They typically work a set number of hours each week and may have benefits like health insurance and paid time off. The specific duties and requirements can vary depending on the employer and the type of driving involved.

Job description

Voyago is seeking a Full-time Patient Transfer Attendant / Mobile Bus Driver to join our team. This is a hybrid role combining the responsibilities of a Patient Transfer Attendant (PTA) with those of a Mobile Bus Driver.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation of patients and passengers, while providing professional, compassionate, and reliable customer service. Depending on the assigned shift and operational requirements, the successful candidate may work as a Patient Transfer Attendant or operate a Mobile Breast Screening Clinic Bus.

This position is suited to an experienced driver who can safely operate larger vehicles while also providing hands-on assistance with patient transfers and mobility needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a PATIENT TRANSFER ATTENDANT

  • Safely transport patients by stretcher or wheelchair to and from healthcare facilities, nursing homes, and private residences.
  • Assist with the safe loading, unloading, and movement of patients using stretchers and stair chairs.
  • Work with a partner to safely lift and maneuver patients weighing 250+ lbs.
  • Provide compassionate, respectful, and professional patient care throughout the transportation process.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare staff, families, dispatch, and other team members.
  • Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety procedures, and infection-control requirements.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Respond appropriately to patient needs and emergencies within the scope of your training.

Patient Transfer Attendant shift rate: $19.50/hour.

As a MOBILE BUS DRIVER

  • Safely operate the Voyago vehicle while providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation services.
  • Ensure customer and passenger safety remains the highest priority at all times.
  • Follow established routes, schedules, Standard Operating Procedures, and company training.
  • Complete required paperwork, including ridership records and vehicle documentation, accurately and legibly.
  • Perform pre-trip circle checks and report mechanical defects or other vehicle concerns according to company procedures.
  • Conduct informal and formal risk assessments and implement safe work practices to reduce risks to passengers, clients, yourself, and others.
  • Immediately report injuries, collisions, property damage, and other incidents to dispatch and/or the Operations Supervisor.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain positive working relationships with passengers, clients, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Render first aid in the event of an emergency on board the vehicle, within the scope of your training.
  • Attend mandatory training, driver safety meetings, and ongoing professional development.

Mobile Bus Driver shift rate: $23.00/hour.

Location: Hamilton Region

Job Type: Full-Time

Wage: $19.50/hour for Patient Transfer Attendant shifts | $23.00/hour for Mobile Bus Driver shifts

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of continuous professional driving experience with the same employer/company.
  • Have a clean and safe driving record and be able to maintain a clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Be physically fit and able to safely lift and maneuver 250+ lbs. using a stretcher or stair chair with a partner.
  • Possess a valid First Responder Certification, AEMCA, or Firefighter Emergency Medical Responder Certification, OR be currently working toward a Paramedic Diploma and have successfully completed Year 1.
  • Hold a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent.
  • Have excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Have successfully completed high school or possess an equivalent qualification/post-secondary diploma.
  • Be able to obtain a satisfactory criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Screening.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to passenger and patient safety.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a professional, safety-focused, physically capable, and compassionate driver who can transition effectively between patient transportation and bus-driving responsibilities.

You should be comfortable working with individuals who may have mobility limitations or medical needs and should demonstrate patience, professionalism, and respect in every interaction.
