Job Summary
The University Analytics & Institutional Reporting (UAIR) office houses a transformational group of data professionals that turn complex university data into meaningful, highly valued information that is trusted by university leadership to drive strategic decisions, and generate official figures reported to regulatory, external and public agencies.

We are seeking an experienced professional who will play a pivotal role in supporting financial decision-making across the university. This position will analyze complex financial and operational information to help university leaders understand financial performance, evaluate resource allocation, monitor revenues and expenses, assess cash flow, and identify emerging risks and opportunities.
The position will work closely with university leadership and financial administrators and staff to define financial performance measures, evaluate trends, and translate data into actionable recommendations. The position will support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and other initiatives requiring a strong understanding of university finances and business operations.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional with a strong understanding of financial and accounting concepts and demonstrated experience helping decision-makers interpret financial results.

Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:

• Partner with financial administrators and staff to understand financial questions, business needs, and decision-making priorities.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in university financial data, financial concepts, and the interpretation of financial performance.
• Analyze revenues, expenses, budgets, forecasts, fund balances, cash flow, encumbrances, and other financial measures to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring leadership attention.
• Evaluate budget-to-actual results and explain significant variances, underlying business drivers, and potential financial implications.
• Work with UAIR data analysts to develop and maintain interactive dashboards and comprehensive reports for campus stakeholders.
• Assess the quality, consistency, and appropriate use of financial data from institutional systems and work with functional and technical partners to resolve data or process issues.
• Help define and monitor key financial and operational performance indicators aligned with institutional priorities.
• Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support university initiatives, operational decisions, and executive leadership requests.
• Maintain familiarity with evolving practices in higher education finance, financial analytics, forecasting, and institutional resource management.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and six years of relevant professional experience, or a master's degree and four years of relevant professional experience, in finance, accounting, economics, business analytics, institutional research, public administration, or a related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of core financial concepts, including revenues and expenses, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial statements, fund balances, and variance analysis.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to present complex data to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively across teams

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Data / Reporting Analyst, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Data / Reporting Analyst, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Data / Reporting Analyst, IV: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Preferences:

• Higher education or public sector experience in financial analysis, budgeting, accounting, institutional research, business analytics, or university administration.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to interpret income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, or comparable fund-accounting reports.
• Experience with utilizing data to support strategic planning initiatives in higher education
• Familiarity with data visualization, business intelligence, querying, or analytical tools such as Tableau/Power BI, SQL, Excel, or comparable platforms.
• Experience performing institutional research analyses that employ advanced statistical analyses and/or predictive analytics
• Master's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, public administration, business analytics, or a related field.
