Job description

Description:

Belmont, OH (hybrid flexibility considered) | Full-time | Reports to the company President

RECO Equipment, Inc. is a family-owned, full-line construction and mining equipment distributor - new, used, and rental - with 19 branches across eight states and roughly 300 employees. We represent leading brands including Bobcat, Link-Belt, Liebherr, and Hitachi, and we are growing through acquisitions. We are hiring our first General Counsel to build and own the legal function.

What you'll do:

  • Own the company's collections and creditors' rights practice: direct recovery strategy on commercial accounts, pursue suits, judgments, replevin, and lien enforcement, handle creditor-side bankruptcy matters, and manage local counsel across our footprint (roughly 30-50% of the role)
  • Draft, negotiate, and maintain the company's core agreements - sales, rental, service, credit, and vendor contracts - and strengthen our standard terms
  • Partner with HR on employment matters across a multi-state workforce
  • Advise ownership and branch leadership on disputes, warranty, risk, and general business-law questions
  • Lead legal due diligence on acquisitions and manage outside deal counsel
Requirements:

What we are looking for:

  • J.D. and Ohio admission (or eligibility); 8+ years of practice
  • Substantial hands-on experience in commercial collections, creditors' rights, or commercial litigation, including UCC Article 9 enforcement and creditor-side bankruptcy
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills; enough employment-law fluency to be HR's first call
  • Experience in or around equipment, construction, distribution, or commercial finance strongly preferred
  • A self-sufficient, commercially minded operator who wants to build legal function, not inherit one

Compensation: competitive base salary plus performance bonus, commensurate with experience, with full benefits, vehicle allowance, and paid CLE/bar dues.
