Job description

Department: NUQ Liberal Arts Program
Northwestern University in Qatar seeks an outstanding colleague for a full-time open rank faculty appointment in Evidenced Based Storytelling and Writing, to be appointed in the Liberal Arts Program. We welcome scholars with an active research agenda that focuses on Writing Studies in the Global South, with preference given to scholars who focus on Africa, the Arab world, or South Asia, whose work is comparative or transnational, whose work includes such areas as rhetoric and composition, second language writing, or creative writing, and who include a diversity of perspectives in their analysis. Candidates could come from rhetoric and composition, writing studies, creative writing, or a related discipline. Candidates are expected to have linguistic competence and field experience in their area of research.
In addition to a demonstrated research record commensurate with rank, or a highly promising research trajectory for emerging candidates with a recent PhD, applicants should show competence in working with global communities, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring, and dedication to institutional service and shared governance. Candidates are expected to contribute to both undergraduate and future graduate education and program development. Teaching expectations include two courses per semester, primarily within NU-Q's First-Year Writing seminar, but with the possibility of electives courses elective courses that speak to their research field, as well as contribution to NU-Q's broader curricular needs. This could include courses qualifying for our university's growing number of interdisciplinary minors, such as AI and Media Studies, Media and Politics, Strategic Communication, Film and Design, Middle East Studies, and Africana Studies. There are also opportunities to collaborate with NU-Q's Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, Artificial Intelligence and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.

We are a globally embedded institution, one of three campuses of Northwestern University (Chicago, Doha, Evanston) and twelve schools of Northwestern University, and one of several partner universities in the Qatar Foundation's Education City in Doha, Qatar.
