The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Resource Geologist III to oversee exploration opportunities and resource modeling to maintain geological resources and support future exploration. This position is based out of Exploration in Viburnum, MO.
Based in St. Louis, Missouri, The Doe Run Company is a privately held natural resources company and one of the largest lead producers in the Western Hemisphere. Dedicated to environmentally responsible mineral and metal production, Doe Run has facilities in Missouri, Washington, and Arizona and operates one of the world's largest, single-site lead recycling facilities, located in Boss, MO. This position offers a competitive base pay and is eligible for the Company variable pay (bonus) plan. Benefits start on the first day and include insurance, paid time off, and various customer discount programs.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of geological experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two of the following areas: core logging, exploration geology, including drill program management, geologic modeling, and resource estimation or operations.
  • Valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically spreadsheets and databases, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of geological mineralization, economic geology, and geological interpretation.
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge of databases which may include AcQuire, Pi, MS SQP Server, Access.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D Modeling software which may include Vulcaan, Surfer, Leapfrog, ArcGIS.
  • Proficient in writing/creating reports.
  • Excellent analysis, observation, and decision making skills.
  • Ability to mentor, train and develop others.
  • Basic knowledge of safety, occupational hazards, and environmental compliance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Development of sound resource models for designated projects and conduct audits and validation on a regular basis. Constructing geologic and block models including data review and validation, developing cross sections, wireframes, 3D surfaces of lithologic units and geologic structures and features, domaining, geostatistics, block model validations, classifying, and issuing resource estimation for project areas.
  • Model geology in assigned project areas using Leapfrog, Vulcan, etc. Generate exploration targets for surface diamond drilling. Log project area holes.
  • Seek out mineral exploration opportunities: evaluate federal and private lands to option; evaluate new federal, state, and private lands to lease; work on other land related exploration issues; make certain that Doe Run has an adequate land package to ensure future exploration areas are available.
  • Lead surface drilling program as needed (rotary and diamond drilling) in the various phases: hole spotting, road and site prep, rotary drilling, diamond drilling, and pipe pulling/reclamation.
  • Assist with the annual resource calculation process and audits. Resource map creation followed by auditing resource maps and both the block and pillar resource databases, assembling data for annual resource estimate calculations. Compile data for block resource database reconciliation and assemble final data.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions, Physical & Lifting Requirements:
  • Regularly required to use computer/tablet. Occasionally required to use non-powered hand tools and drive a personnel carrier. Rarely uses a phone/radio and uses loading equipment.
  • Frequently works in an office environment. Rarely exposed to wet, humid conditions, and rarely works in outdoor weather conditions. Rarely exposed to loud noise levels. Rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Regularly required to use a repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movement; Frequently required to grasp, sit, and stand; Occasionally required to talk, hear, walk, push, and reach. Rarely required to drive, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance; Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
