Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Core Logging Geologist for a contract opportunity supporting a mining client in Elko, Nevada. This position will be responsible for detailed geological logging, sampling, and interpretation of drill core to support ongoing underground and surface exploration and production activities. The successful candidate will work closely with geologists, engineers, and drilling contractors to ensure the accurate collection and documentation of geological data that supports resource evaluation and mine planning.
This role requires working in both underground and surface mining environments, adhering to all site-specific safety protocols and MSHA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Log drill core with a high degree of accuracy, including:
  • Lithology
  • Alteration
  • Mineralization
  • Structure
  • Veining
  • Measure and mark sample intervals according to company procedures.
  • Photograph and document drill core.
  • Maintain detailed geological records within digital logging software and databases.
  • Perform QA/QC procedures on geological data and sampling programs.
  • Assist with core orientation and structural measurements.
  • Interpret geological features to support exploration and resource modeling.
  • Coordinate with drilling contractors regarding core recovery and drilling progress.
  • Support underground mapping and geological observations as needed.
  • Assist with geologic field mapping and surface exploration activities.
  • Maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation for assay samples.
  • Organize and maintain core storage facilities and sample inventories.
  • Communicate findings with senior geologists and technical teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety standards and MSHA regulations.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and field risk assessments.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience logging drill core in mining or mineral exploration.
  • Experience working in both underground and open-pit mining environments preferred.
  • Strong understanding of ore deposits, structural geology, and alteration systems.
  • Experience with geological logging software (Leapfrog, MX Deposit, acQuire, GeoticLog, or similar).
  • Familiarity with GIS and geological modeling software is a plus.
  • Ability to accurately identify rock types, alteration, and mineralization.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Nevada mining experience.
  • Experience with underground core orientation techniques.
  • Knowledge of QA/QC best practices for exploration drilling.
  • MSHA Part 48 certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience supporting resource definition or exploration drilling programs.

Work Environment
  • Contract position based in Elko, NV.
  • Work performed in both underground and surface mining operations.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, uneven terrain, and mining equipment.
  • Required use of appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Schedule may include rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays depending on project needs.
