This is a hybrid position, working three evenings onsite and one evening remote. The onsite vs. remote days are subject to change.
This is a 4-day x 10-hour shift with three days onsite and one day remote.
This position is security sensitive and subject to university guidelines and Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes background checks for security-sensitive positions.
This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.
This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.
Purpose
This position is responsible for operating and monitoring computer systems and peripheral equipment within a command center environment inside University Data Centers. The position helps ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of the data center.
Responsibilities
1. Monitor and control the operation of computer system consoles
2. Analyze and escalate reported issues coordinating resolution
3. Perform data halls tasks, upon request:
  • Securing access to the UDC Austin data centers
  • Tier 1 technical assistance for customers (hard drive swaps, crash cart connections, power cycle systems)
  • Escort UT personnel and vendors in data halls
  • Data Center site checks

4. Receive and ship parts equipment and provide media destruction services for UDC customers. Data Center surplus is also removed and delivered on an as-needed basis
5. Administrative tasks and adherence
  • Respond to and fulfill job tasks within established Service Level Agreements
  • Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157 in order to drive on- and off-campus utilizing University-owned vehicles.
  • Email, project work, meetings and training
  • Strict adherence to attendance and punctuality for assigned shift

6. Perform other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Three years of experience in the operation of computers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Work seamlessly across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with personnel that perform maintenance or upgrade work on computer/facility systems (verbal and written).
  • Must complete and pass the CJIS background check process to qualify for employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of work experience and/or training supporting the operation of computers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience supporting operations during overnight shifts.
  • Experience providing support to mission critical data centers or network operation centers.
  • Understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as HVAC, Electrical and UPS Systems.
  • Working knowledge of Networking: concepts, protocols and cabling.
  • System administration of Windows, Unix and/or Mainframe platforms.
  • Ability and willingness to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with minimal impact on reliability.
  • Technical certifications such as ITIL, A+ or Data Center.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. The driving record will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a university owned vehicle.
Salary Range
$44,000 + depending on qualifications
This shift provides an additional $6,000 annually in shift differential pay.

  • Monday - Thursday, 10pm - 8:30am (Subject to change), Frequent nights, some weekends and holidays required
