What are some common challenges faced in a full-time compression molding role, and how can they be managed on the job?

In a full-time compression molding position, workers often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent product quality, operating machinery efficiently, and managing time during production cycles. Variations in material properties and temperature fluctuations can also impact the molding process, requiring attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly. Team collaboration is essential, as operators frequently coordinate with quality control, maintenance, and engineering staff to resolve problems and optimize production. Staying up to date with safety protocols and continuous process improvements helps in overcoming these challenges and ensures a productive work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Compression Molding Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Compression Molding Technician, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, mechanical aptitude, and experience with molding equipment, often supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Familiarity with compression molding machines, measurement tools like calipers, and quality control systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork are important soft skills for excelling in this role. These skills ensure efficient production, consistent product quality, and safety in a manufacturing environment.

What is the difference between Full Time Compression Molding vs Part Time Compression Molding?

How much do injection molders make?

Injection molders, including those working in compression molding, typically earn an average hourly wage of around $15 to $25, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $30,000 to $50,000. Wages vary based on experience, location, and skill level, and may increase with certifications and advanced training in operating molding equipment.

What is a Full Time Compression Molding job?

A Full Time Compression Molding job involves operating machinery and equipment to form materials—usually plastics or composites—into specific shapes using heat and pressure. Workers in this role set up molds, load raw materials, monitor the molding process, and inspect finished parts for quality. These positions are typically found in manufacturing environments and may require standing for extended periods, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. Full time roles usually offer consistent hours and benefits, making them attractive for those seeking stable employment in manufacturing.

Job description

Company Overview
Hybron is an advanced manufacturing company that is building lightweight composites at mass production scale. At Hybron, we have pioneered a new composites manufacturing process that enables complex, high performance composite parts to be produced 10-100 times faster than traditional manufacturing, at a fraction of the cost.
We recently closed an oversubscribed $25M seed round, are backed by the Northrop Grumman Technology Accelerator, and are rapidly growing to commercialize and mass produce composite products at a scale never seen before. Our current focus is applying our proprietary process to composite artillery shells, solid rocket motor nozzles, gas turbine engine components, and airframes.
If you want to join a rapidly growing company working on cutting edge composites technology while building capabilities for the warfighter and reshoring U.S. manufacturing, then we want to speak with you.
About the Role
This is a full-time, in-person role at our El Segundo pilot facility. As you will be working at an early-stage deep tech startup, this role will span many different tasks. You will need to be a self-starter and be adaptable to performing many different jobs. Along with these high expectations comes the opportunity to significantly influence the product development, strategy, and trajectory of a fast-growing startup company. Your work will tangibly impact our company and the composites industry, and you will be able to make rapid professional gains in an environment that encourages growth and innovation.
This role involves leading the end-to-end development and scaled manufacturing of high-performance composite products. You will be responsible for taking innovative concepts, designing products, manufacturing first articles, proving performance, and scaling manufacturing. As the owner of the product lifecycle, you will oversee design for manufacturing, material selection, layup optimization, and tooling integration.
Working in a high-growth company, you will be wearing many hats: project management, requirements identification, manufacturing design, stress and performance design, supply chain and vendor management, process optimization, continuous improvement, quality inspection, customer engagement, and more.
Growth Opportunity and Targets
As you grow with Hybron, your responsibilities are expected to shift and evolve. Our hope is that you will be able to grow into the following responsibilities:
  • Grow and lead an engineering team for developing and deploying our manufacturing capabilities in different applications
  • Own product development and engineering on one or several products at Hybron
  • Assist with technical business development efforts
  • Identify and execute on developing/integrating strategic technological capabilities
