What is a full time CNC operator?

Full Time CNC Operators are skilled workers who operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines to manufacture parts and components according to precise specifications. They set up machines, load materials, monitor production, and inspect finished products for quality. Working full time, they often collaborate with engineers and other team members to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure safety standards are met. CNC Operators play a crucial role in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing by producing high-quality parts efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time CNC operator?

To thrive as a Full Time CNC Operator, you need mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience with manufacturing processes, often supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Familiarity with CNC programming software (such as G-code), operation of CNC machinery, and use of precision measuring tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, reliability, and effective communication help an operator excel in this role. These abilities ensure accurate part production, machine safety, and efficient workflow in a manufacturing environment.

What are some common challenges a full time CNC operator might face, and how can they be managed?

Full Time CNC Operators often encounter challenges such as maintaining machine precision, troubleshooting equipment issues, and handling tight production deadlines. Staying attentive to detail and adhering to regular maintenance schedules can help prevent errors and machine downtime. Additionally, communicating effectively with team members and supervisors ensures any issues are addressed promptly, and ongoing training can keep operators up-to-date with the latest CNC technology and best practices.

What is the difference between Full Time Cnc Operator vs Part Time Cnc Operator?

Posted 12 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Operate CNC laser and/or press brake machinery according to work orders and specifications.

  • Set up equipment, prepare jobs, and produce quality metal-fabricated parts based on blueprints and drawings.

  • Conduct basic quality inspections using measuring tools and complete production and quality documentation.

Job description

Build Skills That Move Manufacturing Forward

Metko is a third-generation, family-owned Wisconsin manufacturer built on quality workmanship, dependable service, and the people behind every part we produce.

We are looking for a full-time CNC Machine Operator to join our third-shift team in New Holstein. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC operator - or for a mechanically inclined manufacturing professional who is ready to learn CNC laser and press brake equipment.

If you enjoy working with machinery, solving problems, and seeing raw sheet metal become a finished part, we can help you build on the skills you already have.

Second Shift Schedule

Second Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Initial training will temporarily take place on first shift before transitioning to the regular second shift schedule.  First shift is Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

What You'll Do

  • Operate CNC laser and/or press brake machinery.
  • Set up equipment and prepare jobs according to work orders.
  • Produce quality metal-fabricated parts according to blueprints, specifications, and production standards.
  • Conduct basic quality inspections throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Check completed parts using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other measuring equipment.
  • Read and follow work orders and manufacturing drawings.
  • Complete production and quality documentation.
  • Keep your work area clean, organized, and ready for the next job.
  • Work alongside teammates to meet customer expectations for quality and delivery.
  • Follow established safety and quality procedures.

What Will Help You Succeed

  • Mechanical ability and an interest in manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience operating CNC machinery or other production equipment.
  • Attention to detail and pride in producing accurate, quality parts.
  • The ability to inspect work using measuring equipment and drawings.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Good problem-solving ability.
  • A dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented approach.
  • Clear communication and a commitment to safe work practices.
  • An interest in learning how to read manufacturing blueprints - or continuing to develop that skill.
  • The ability to work effectively in an active production environment.

Previous CNC machine-operation experience is preferred, but it is not required. We also welcome applicants with experience operating other types of manufacturing machinery who have the mechanical ability and desire to learn Metko's equipment.

Sheet-metal experience and blueprint-reading experience are helpful, but both can be developed on the job.

Grow Into Your Next Manufacturing Role

At Metko, you are not joining a distant corporation. You are joining a third-generation, family-owned manufacturer where your work matters and your skills can grow with every job you complete.

Whether you already know CNC equipment or are ready to take the next step from another machine-operation role, we would like to hear from you.

Apply today and start building your future with Metko.
