Job description


Seasonal Position with Opportunity to Become Full-Time

Entry level Shellfish Nursery Support Worker / FLUPSY Washdown position. This position will support the raising of clam and oyster seed in our Oakland Bay area FLUPSY. Duties include screening oysters, pulling bins to the screening table, and helping spray the hopper so product continues to flow through the machine. The position also requires pressure washing bins daily, including the bottom screens.

No prior experience in aquaculture is required. This is a seasonal position with the opportunity for full-time employment at the end of the season. The position may require working weekends. Applicants must be comfortable lifting heavy items, working on uneven ground, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Appropriate protective clothing is required. Taylor Shellfish is a drug-free workplace.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently at times with little direction
  • Must possess a strong work ethic
  • Reliable transportation
  • Strong and sound decision-making skills
  • Must maintain positive company morale
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
  • May be required to work at other work sites or locations as needed
  • Good note-keeping skills preferred
  • Must be able to follow crew supervisor instructions and be accountable to them
  • Must be able to identify family species by colored tags on bins

  • Ability to stand and/or walk on uneven ground
  • The employee may be  required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and squat 
  • The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers.
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
