Job description

Job Summary
To assess, treat, solve problems, counsel, educate and refer patients seen for primary or acute care in the clinic/related department, utilizing advanced assessment and evaluation techniques.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Assess health status and health potential: plan, implement and evaluate health care needs of the patient/family.
โ€ข Plan, manage and evaluate therapeutic regimens for patients, consulting with physician(s) and other members of the health care team, including school officials.
โ€ข Plan, teach and counsel patients regarding current health care status and the signs and symptoms of illness.
โ€ข Assess growth and development of the patient.
โ€ข Perform clinical and therapeutic procedures.
โ€ข Assume a leadership role in developing nursing care policies and procedures
for the unit.
โ€ข Assist with planning and monitoring quality improvement/control for the unit.
โ€ข Perform history and physical examination, and record data.
โ€ข Identify normal and abnormal findings, and consult as needed with physician to determine the plan of treatment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)
The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
Competency Statement
Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
