Key Highlights

  • Join a department total of 131 Pathologists with 4 in the clinical chemistry lab
  • Provides technical directorship of the clinical laboratories to ensure regulatory compliance and quality patient test results within an integrated multi-hospital clinical chemistry service.
  • Provide on call attending responsibilities including clinical consultations for physician and healthcare providers regarding test results and interpretations.
  • Actively participate in Divisional educational activities
  • Pursue basic/clinical/translational research.
  • Laboratory-based investigations and entrepreneurial efforts are supportable based on prior accomplishments.
  • Develops and delivers educational content for medical students, residents, fellows, and laboratory staff both within the formal Clinical Chemistry rotation, elective teaching, informal teaching, and mentoring settings.

  • Participates in trainee evaluations and candidate interviews

  • Academic rank, tenure and salary will be commensurate with experience. The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as well as a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large hospital-based clinical chemistry laboratory that provides technical directorship in general chemistry, urinalysis, toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring, immunopathology, and esoteric testing is beneficial, together with a proven academic track record of effective communication (written, verbal and presentation).
  • Expertise in clinical laboratory quality management to ensure the total testing phase (pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases) is appropriate and standardized across the healthcare system.
  • Expertise in Informatics and its clinical application in Pathology is a plus.
  • Board certification from an approved agency (ABCC, NRCC(CC), CAP)
  • Must have an Ph.D. or M.D. with board certification in Clinical Chemistry or equivalent specialty.
  • If Ph.D., Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, National Registry of Clinical Chemists, or certification from CMS current approved boards.\
  • If M.D., Board certification or eligibility in clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is required.
  • Assistant Professor (1-5 years of experience) Associate Professor (6-10 years of experience)
