This AIRCRAFT MECHANIC position, is located in the Logistics function of an ARNG Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF).The AASF provides Aviation Unit Maintenance (AVUM), Aviation Intermediate Maintenance (AVIM),and aviation maintenance training for supported unitsand is part of theCA AASF Stockton.

THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION
The primary purpose of the AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-12, is to act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Responsibilities include detailed technical oversight of individual aircraft's level of mission capabilities and projection of maintenance requirements to maintain individual aircraft operational readiness.
May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.

CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Compatible Military Assignment and Grade are required. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position.

AREA I= Current California National Guard employees who are serving on a Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary appointment.
AREA II= Current California National Guard members.
Military Grades: E-4 through E-7

PCS
Relocation Costs IS NOT authorized based on determination that Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is not in the Government best interest.
  • Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance.
  • May be required to successfully complete a one or two year trial period.
  • Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards.
  • Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Security Clearance: at a minimum a National Agency Check is required.
Desired Experience (Not Required) - Current CH-47 and/or UH-72 Flight Engineer (FE)/Crew Chief (CE) or currently an official CH-47 and/or UH-72 Technical Inspector (TI)
Qualifications
General Experience: Experience or training that has provided the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; Skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-12: Must have at least 18 months experience which demonstrates the ability to perform duties as a dedicated crew chief; Experience performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers; Experience coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft; Experience serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.

As a condition of employment, new appointees are required to serve a trial period. Individuals who are initially appointed to a permanent or indefinite position in the CMD must complete a one (1) or two (2) year trial period subject to appointment type (DSMT or T5) and veteran's preference. Trial periods for federal excepted service employees are established under 5 CFR Chapter I, Subchapter A-Part 11.
MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period).
