Position Overview

The CP Helper I supports field technicians in performing cathodic protection (CP) installation, testing, and maintenance activities on pipelines and related infrastructure. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals who want to build a long-term career in the corrosion control and pipeline integrity industry. The CP Helper I assists experienced crew members in safely executing tasks that protect critical energy assets from corrosion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of cathodic protection systems for pipelines and facilities.
  • Help perform CP surveys, including Close Interval Surveys (CIS), DCVG, and current testing under supervision.
  • Support field setup and equipment preparation, including testing meters, cables, and data recorders.
  • Collect and record field data accurately on paper forms, tablets, or digital devices.
  • Assist with excavation, wiring, trenching, and backfilling related to CP system installation.
  • Load and unload materials and maintain organized work areas and vehicles.
  • Follow all company safety policies, wear appropriate PPE, and participate in daily safety briefings.
  • Travel frequently to job sites and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CP Technician or Project Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor.
  • Willingness to travel regionally or nationally for field assignments (overnight stays required).
  • Strong attention to detail, team orientation, and desire to learn technical field skills.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in physically demanding environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in pipeline, construction, or utility field work is beneficial but not required.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools, voltmeters, and field data collection.
  • OSHA 10 or SafeLand certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Interest in progressing toward CP Technician or NACE Level I certification.
