Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Tumor Registrar, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and organizing a robust cancer patient data system that aligns with ACOS standards and fulfills the needs of the Kentucky Cancer Program. Your expertise will be vital in assisting with cancer registry operations, contributing to quality medical research and advancing our understanding of cancer occurrences and outcomes. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact patient care through meticulous data management.

Every day you will perform data entry, meticulously examine medical and pathology records to determine patient eligibility for the cancer registry database, and efficiently abstract cancer registry data from medical records. Your responsibilities include collecting, calculating, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting numerical data related to cancer occurrence, case management, and outcome measures. You'll contribute to a comprehensive cancer surveillance program that ultimately supports research and improves patient outcomes.

To be successful in this cancer data management role, you will need an Associate's Degree of Science or equivalent education required to sit for certification, coupled with experience in coding or transcription. Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) is required within 24 months of hire. Strong basic computer skills and knowledge of Cancer Registry software systems are essential. We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical individual with a high level of accuracy, who can work independently and effectively manage workload to support our mission of making known the healing presence of God by improving health and advancing social justice for all.

Established by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924, CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Neb. At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.
