ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

JOB POSITION: Project CAMINOS Student Ambassador

DEPARTMENT: Academic Engagement & Success

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality 1500 management, leadership or research grants, this student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

SUMMARY: A Project CAMINOS Student Ambassador serves as a representative of Project CAMINOS within the Office of Academic Engagement and Success. Funded by the East L.A Subregional K-16 Collaborative Grant, the Student Ambassador supports programs that promote college awareness, access, and student success for K-12 students, families, educators, and community partners. Student Ambassadors assist with workshops, college fairs, campus events, and summer programs by welcoming participants, facilitating activities, and providing exceptional customer service. They also share information about Cal Poly Pomona's academic programs and campus resources while supporting event logistics and creating a positive, inclusive experience for all participants.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

• Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of Cal Poly Pomona by engaging with prospective students, families, educators, and community partners during outreach programs and events.
• Provide one-on-one and small-group guidance and mentorship to prospective students by sharing approved information about college pathways, application process, admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and campus resources.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages students to explore higher education and develop confidence in their college journey.
• Support planning, and facilitation of outreach programs, campus visits, workshops, college fairs, and special events.
• Demonstrate how to access and navigate key college planning resources, including Cal State Apply, CaliforniaColleges.edu (CCGI), the Cal Poly Pomona website, and other college readiness tools.
• Refer students and families with appropriate Cal Poly Pomona departments and community resources to address questions related to admissions, financial aid, academic programs, student support services, and campus life.
• Share personal college experiences and educational journeys to inspire prospective students and provide authentic peer perspectives on university life.
• Maintain accurate records of event participation and outreach activities while completing assigned projects by established deadlines. Projects may include developing social media content, supporting podcast production, designing flyers and promotional materials, and creating other resources in alignment with university branding and communication guidelines.
• Collaborate with professional staff and fellow Student Ambassadors to deliver high-quality outreach programming and continuously improve participant experiences.
• Attend required training sessions, team huddles with staff and other Student Ambassadors.
• Model professionalism, leadership, teamwork, effective communication, and commitment to Cal Poly Pomona's values while representing the university both on and off campus.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a current Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate student.
• Carry out assigned duties at off-campus locations using reliable personal transportation, with a valid California driver's license and current auto insurance.
• Develop individual respect for one another, respect for personal and the University as a whole.
• Ability to commit to a regular work schedule of at least 8 hours per week.
• Ability to work on occasional evenings and weekends to support outreach events, campus programs, and special initiatives.
• Must remain in good judicial standing (cannot be on disciplinary probation) throughout appointment.
• Comfortable learning and using technology, online platforms, and office equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
• Experience working with and supporting K-12 students through tutoring, coaching, youth programs, or other educational settings.
• Prior experience in leadership, peer mentoring, or student leadership roles preferred.
