Salary Range: Entry rate is approx. $37.24-$37.39/hr

Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway, where joining our Engineering Department means contributing to the backbone of our nation's rail infrastructure. As a member of our Construction - Structural Maintenance Bridge and BuildingTeam, you'll play a vital role in constructing, inspecting, and maintaining bridges and buildings to ensure structural integrity and safety.
This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position and is subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Travel is required to (and remain at) job sites for extended periods, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, in the designated seniority region.
Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job and classroom training and will include travel to the BNSF Training Center.
Key responsibilities may include:
Performing construction, maintenance, and repairing of railroad bridges, tunnels, culverts, and other structures.
Repairing timber bridges, trestles, and tunnel supports, and repairing/replacing structural steel members of bridges.
Placing and finishing concrete surfaces and performing conventional carpentry work.
Reading blueprints to determine required materials and dimensions, lay out work, and mark cutting and assembly lines.
Assembling, cutting, shaping materials, fastening with appropriate fasteners, rigging materials for hoisting, and operating company vehicles as directed.
Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Relocation assistance is not available and there is a 60-day probationary period.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF's assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • 21 years old or older
  • Must have valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or be able to obtain one within the first 60 days of employment
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
  • Able to work safely at heights and using fall protection equipment.
  • Able to work the above shift/hours.
  • Able to meet the above travel requirements.
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English, as well as issue and act on oral instructions clearly and accurately with using email, text, telephone and other methods of communication.
  • Able to stoop, bend, walk on uneven surfaces; walk, stand, bend, lift, sit for extended time.
  • Able to use hands, hand tools, and power tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 90 pounds without assistance.

Union membershipis with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees - Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED) and union dues are required per union agreement.
Seniority district transfers are handled per union agreement, are seniority based and require Director approval.
