Summary:

The Biological Data Computation Support specialist develops, maintains, and executes computational workflows to process and analyze complex datasets generated in biological research studies on threat agents. Provides bioinformatics and data science support for molecular biology and systems biology research involving genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support development of analysis pipelines for NGS and proteomics.
  • Perform statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Maintain data integrity and security across platforms.
  • Assist in data interpretation and result reporting.
  • Document code, workflows, and SOPs.
  • Provides computational and analytical tool development services, comprising the ability to construct high-throughput analysis pipelines for omics data and integrates with in-house databases.
  • Performs work with scripting languages (Perl, Pyton, R, etc.), manages large –omics data sets, works with databases (Oracle, MySQL, etc.) and transport data between systems.
  • Assists in running analytical workflows for standard –omics data sets.
  • Assist in developing analytical pipelines code, open-source tools installations and maintenance.
  • Maintains laboratory records documenting sample processing log and data entry for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Reviews Standard Operating Procedures and workflows in accordance with applicable policies.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Programming skills in R, Python, or Perl.
  • Familiarity with databases (SQL/MySQL).
  • Ability to communicate scientific results effectively.
  • Has basic knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation, open-source application and data security concepts and methods, and an understanding of relational databases and operating systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, statistics, or a biological science.
  • Minimum 2+ years in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or data science.
  • Experience with Linux environments and open-source bioinformatics tools.
  • Has background in bioinformatics and adept in –omics data management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required.
  • Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACTIVE SECRET is preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000 annually.
