Full-time

Posted 13 days ago

Job description

The Oglethorpe University Core Program is seeking adjunct instructors to teach Oglethorpe’s unique Core 103: Music and Culture class during the Fall 2026 semester. Our Core Music and Culture course is an exciting approach to the general education breadth requirement in the arts.

Students in this course develop an understanding of the creative process as a means of self-expression and the artist’s relationship to the world. This course examines the styles, trends, and developments of Western and international music from early civilizations through the 20th century. Study and discussion develop an understanding of how music and the cultural arts reflect and affect societal trends and values.

Successful applicants must be interested in student-centered teaching. Applicants will be expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by engaging in and promoting diverse teaching, learning, and mentoring communities.

Teaching assignments will be based on instructor experience, areas of expertise, and availability. Course sections meet 3 hours/week (either three 60-minute sessions or two 90-minute sessions).  For more information about the teaching schedule, please reach out to the Director of Core Studies, at coredirectors@oglethorpe.edu.

Oglethorpe is committed to fostering a campus community and intellectual environment that recruits and maintains diverse faculty and staff, promotes a culture of respect for diverse experiences and perspectives, and understands and addresses the role of inequality in shaping our individual and collective identities. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development. Adjunct faculty will be mentored and supported by full-time Art/Core faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a collaborative community.

The university currently enrolls a diverse population of approximately 1,500 students who represent more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups, whose work furthers the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
