What does a typical day look like for a Full Time Apprentice at a scrap yard, and how does the role support the overall team?

As a Full Time Apprentice in a scrap yard, your day often involves hands-on tasks such as sorting, processing, and preparing scrap materials for recycling. You'll work closely with experienced staff to learn how to safely operate machinery, identify different metals, and follow environmental and safety regulations. Collaboration is key; you'll communicate with team members to ensure efficient workflow, assist with inventory, and help load or unload materials. This role provides valuable industry knowledge and can lead to more advanced positions as you gain experience and demonstrate reliability.

Is an apprentice a full-time job?

A full-time apprentice in a scrap yard typically works standard hours, usually around 35-40 hours per week, similar to other full-time positions. The apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction and may require a consistent schedule to develop skills in areas like safety, equipment operation, and metal sorting.

What pays the most at a scrap yard?

At a scrap yard, roles such as yard manager, heavy equipment operator, or certified welder tend to have higher pay compared to entry-level positions. Skilled workers with certifications and experience generally earn more, especially if they operate specialized machinery or handle valuable materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Apprentice in a Scrap Yard, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Apprentice in a Scrap Yard, you need a basic understanding of machinery operation, safety protocols, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools such as forklifts, metal cutting equipment, and inventory management systems is typically required, and some positions may require safety certifications like OSHA. Strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient operations and help apprentices develop into reliable, skilled workers in a demanding environment.

What are Full Time Apprentice Scrap Yard jobs?

Full Time Apprentice Scrap Yard jobs involve learning various tasks in a scrap yard, such as sorting and processing scrap metal, operating machinery, and understanding recycling procedures. Apprentices work under experienced staff to gain hands-on experience and develop skills in material handling, safety protocols, and equipment use. These positions are full-time, meaning apprentices work a standard workweek while receiving both on-the-job training and, sometimes, classroom instruction. The goal is to prepare apprentices for long-term employment in the recycling and scrap industry.

What apprentice job pays the most?

In the context of a full-time apprentice scrap yard worker, the highest-paying apprenticeships typically involve specialized skills such as heavy equipment operation, welding, or hazardous material handling. These roles often offer higher wages due to the technical skills and safety certifications required. Pay rates can vary based on experience, location, and company policies, but specialized apprenticeships generally pay more than entry-level positions.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

Jobs that can pay $2000 a day typically include specialized roles such as high-level contractors, certain executive positions, or skilled trades like commercial pilots or surgeons. Scrap Yard Buyer

Company Overview

M&M Recycling is a well-established scrap metal recycling company serving the Locust Grove area. We are committed to safety, integrity, productivity, and great customer service while supporting a more sustainable future through responsible recycling.

Our team works in a high-energy, fast-paced outdoor environment where hard work is recognized and there are real opportunities to learn, advance, and build a long-term career in the scrap industry.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Non-Ferrous Scrap Yard Buyer and Small Scale Operator to join our team in Locust Grove. This role is ideal for someone with scrap metal experience who wants to deepen their expertise in non-ferrous metals, work directly with customers, and play a key part in daily yard operations.

In this position, you will own the process of evaluating, grading, and pricing incoming non-ferrous material while delivering strong customer service and supporting a safe, efficient yard. If you enjoy hands-on work, working outdoors, and being part of a tight-knit team, this is a strong next step in your career.

What You'll Do
  • Greet and assist customers as they unload non-ferrous scrap material at the small scale
  • Weigh, grade, and evaluate non-ferrous metals (such as copper, brass, aluminum, and wire) using proper techniques and tools
  • Provide accurate, fair pricing based on current market values and company standards while documenting transactions correctly
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working area, following all safety procedures and guidelines
  • Assist with general labor and processing tasks in the non-ferrous division, including moving, sorting, and preparing material
What Success Looks Like
  • Within your first few months, you consistently and accurately grade and price non-ferrous materials with minimal supervision
  • Customers recognize you for friendly, efficient service and return regularly because of the experience you provide
  • You help keep your work area safe and organized, with minimal downtime and incidents
  • You become a dependable part of the yard team, communicating clearly with the Scrap Yard Manager and supporting smooth daily operations
What We're Looking For
  • Industry experience in the scrap metal field, with working knowledge of non-ferrous metals and basic grading practices
  • Comfort working in a hands-on, outdoor, high-energy environment with regular physical activity
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn and follow established processes
  • Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team
Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay range: $65,000 - $75,000 per year, based on experience
  • Supportive, team-based work environment with opportunities for advancement
  • Full-time, on-site position
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Saturday, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
