Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior API Platform Software Engineer to join an API Ecosystem team supporting enterprise scale financial services applications. This role is focused on building and enhancing backend services, APIs, and API platform capabilities within a highly distributed, AWS based environment.
The engineer will develop secure, scalable RESTful APIs and microservices while contributing across the API lifecycle, including implementation, versioning, security, performance, monitoring, and production support. The role requires strong hands-on development experience with Java or Python, modern DevOps practices, AWS services, and API management technologies.
You will work closely with Product, DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams in an Agile environment to deliver reliable API solutions that meet enterprise security, availability, and performance requirements.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
. 5+ years of hands on software development experience using Java (8-21) and/or Python.
. Experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices in distributed environments.
. Hands on experience with AWS, particularly services such as EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, Route 53, and CloudWatch.
. Experience with API management and API gateway technologies, including Apigee OPDK, Apigee X, or Apigee Hybrid.
. Strong understanding of the API lifecycle, including versioning, security, throttling, traffic management, and analytics.
. Experience implementing API security using OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and API key management.
. Working knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger; GraphQL experience is a plus.
. Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tooling, including GitHub or GitLab and Terraform.
. Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript for supporting full stack or platform development needs.
. Experience with containers and Kubernetes, particularly ECS and EKS in AWS environments.
. Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as OpenTelemetry (OTEL), Splunk, and AWS CloudWatch.
. Understanding of load balancing, caching, high availability, resiliency, and disaster recovery concepts.
. Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.
. Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
. Experience collaborating with Product, DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Desired Skillset:
. CloudFormation experience is beneficial.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
