Job description

JOB TITLE: Aerospace Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTING TO: CTO via Chief Engineer

SUMMARY: 

The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation Aerospace Engineer designs mechanisms, structures, systems, and equipment for aeronautical or aerospace products with a focus on rotorcraft applications. This individual will plan and conduct analysis of aerodynamic, thermodynamic, aerothermodynamics, and aero physics concepts, systems, and designs to resolve problems and determine suitability and application to aircraft and aerospace products. The Aerospace Engineer will advise and assist program managers with meeting aircraft design specifications and analyze the performance of aircraft in various flight conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform engineering duties in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of aerospace systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines
  • Analyze designs and develop configurations to ensure satisfactory static and dynamic stability and control characteristics for completed vehicles
  • Perform stress analyses on aerospace hardware and ground and test support equipment
  • Work with design engineers in developing optimal structures, designs, and material selections for major components
  • Initiate and assist in formulating and evaluating laboratory, flight, and wind tunnel test programs
  • Prepare reports and conclusions for other engineering and design personnel
  • Coordinate activities of model design group and model shop to assure required configuration of wind tunnel models
  • Prepare air load data on vehicle to conform to aerodynamic requirements
  • Prepare reports on results of analyses, such as flight performance validation, aircraft configuration, trade studies, and aircraft certification
  • Confer with customers on performance problems during operational life of vehicle
  • Conduct research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture
  • Recommend improvements in testing equipment and techniques

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency with MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with design software and Solidworks
  • Knowledge of FMEA/Reliability software (Preferred)
  • MATLAB simulation experience (Preferred)
  • Work experience in Aerospace & Defense industry
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (Required)
  • Active Secret Clearance (Preferred)

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS / CLEARANCES:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related technical field (Required)
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field (Preferred)
  • 1-3 years' experience working in an aerospace engineering environment
  • Experience with dynamic analysis and testing of aerospace structures and components (Preferred)
  • Experience with finite element analysis (Preferred)
  • Experience with materials evaluation and testing for aircraft (Preferred)
