1st Grade Teacher (Abeka Curriculum)

Position Title: 1st Grade Teacher
Reports To: Principal/School Director
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The 1st Grade Teacher is responsible for providing a Christ-centered, academically excellent learning environment using the Abeka Curriculum. The teacher will plan and deliver engaging lessons, foster spiritual growth, maintain classroom management, and partner with parents to ensure every student reaches their academic, social, emotional, and spiritual potential.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Teach all core subjects using the Abeka Curriculum, including:
    • Bible
    • Reading & Phonics
    • Language Arts
    • Penmanship
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • Spelling
  • Follow Abeka lesson plans and pacing guides while adapting instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Incorporate hands-on learning, centers, technology, and creative teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate lesson plans and instructional records.

Student Learning

  • Assess student progress through quizzes, tests, observations, and daily assignments.
  • Differentiate instruction to support varying learning styles.
  • Identify students needing additional support and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Classroom Management

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom.
  • Establish clear expectations and consistent classroom routines.
  • Foster respect, responsibility, kindness, and Christian character.
  • Create an environment where every child feels valued and encouraged.

Christian Leadership

  • Integrate biblical principles throughout all instruction.
  • Lead daily prayer and Bible lessons.
  • Model Christian values and servant leadership.
  • Encourage students to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Parent Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to parent inquiries.
  • Partner with families to support student success.

School Responsibilities

  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
  • Assist with school programs, performances, and special events.
  • Support the school's mission, vision, and statement of faith.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (preferred).
  • Florida Teaching Certificate (preferred but not required for private schools).
  • Experience teaching elementary students, preferably 1st Grade.
  • Experience using or willingness to learn the Abeka Curriculum.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administration, staff, and parents.
  • Strong Christian testimony and lifestyle consistent with the school's mission.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of child development and early elementary education.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Effective use of educational technology.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Positive attitude with a servant's heart.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and biblical truth.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Bend, kneel, and assist young children as needed.
  • Ability to supervise indoor and outdoor activities.
