Job Description:

Schnabel's Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) group is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer (Python/Django) to design, develop, and support web applications, data platforms, and digital tools that enhance engineering workflows and client services.

In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technical specialists to create software solutions that improve how engineering data is collected, managed, analyzed, and delivered. You will contribute to a variety of initiatives, including project portals, workflow automation, GIS-enabled applications, dashboards, data visualization tools, and integrations with engineering and business systems.

This position is ideal for a developer who enjoys solving complex problems, building scalable applications, and translating real-world business and engineering needs into practical software solutions. While prior engineering industry experience is not required, an interest in learning and supporting engineering, environmental, and infrastructure projects is essential.

The RDI group helps transform emerging ideas and technologies into practical solutions that improve engineering workflows, project delivery, and client outcomes. The team works with technical staff across the company to identify opportunities, evaluate new technologies, develop and implement innovative tools and processes, and support adoption through training, pilot projects, and change management efforts. RDI also advances Schnabel's industry leadership through applied research, conference presentations, publications, and business development support. Areas of focus span artificial intelligence, automation, geospatial technologies, advanced sensing and reality capture, software engineering, data management, optimization, and visualization technologies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications using Python and Django.
  • Build and support data management, automation, reporting, and visualization solutions.
  • Develop integrations between applications, databases, GIS platforms, and other business systems.
  • Deploy, monitor, and maintain applications in cloud, server, and containerized environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver software solutions.
  • Support software quality through testing, documentation, source control, and development best practices.
  • Enhance existing applications and platforms to improve performance, usability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Create dashboards, tools, and workflows that help users access and understand complex project and engineering data.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related technical field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience. 
  • Experience developing web applications using Python and Django.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, web technologies, and application deployment environments.
  • Experience using source control tools such as Git and familiarity with software development best practices.
  • Ability to work with a variety of data sources, including structured, geospatial, and project-related data.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Interest in learning and supporting engineering, infrastructure, and AEC industry workflows.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience developing software solutions for engineering, construction, environmental, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, application integrations, and modern web development frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of GIS, spatial data, mapping technologies, or data visualization tools.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, or similar business systems.
  • Familiarity with software testing, code quality standards, and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated software development experience through professional projects, deployed applications, or personal portfolios.
