What is a full stack network associate?

A Full Stack Network Associate is an IT professional skilled in both the configuration and management of network infrastructure (such as routers, switches, and firewalls) and the development or maintenance of network-related software and interfaces. They bridge the gap between traditional networking and modern software deployment, often working with both hardware and network automation tools. Their responsibilities can include network design, troubleshooting, security implementation, and sometimes writing code to automate network tasks or integrate with cloud platforms. This role is valuable in organizations that require both solid network foundations and agile, software-driven network management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack network associate?

To thrive as a Full Stack Network Associate, you need a solid understanding of networking fundamentals, protocols, and troubleshooting, typically backed by a relevant degree or certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA. Familiarity with network monitoring tools, configuration management systems, and scripting languages such as Python is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help professionals excel in this role. These skills ensure the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of network infrastructure, which is critical for business continuity.

What are some common challenges full stack network associates face when supporting both front-end and back-end network systems?

Full Stack Network Associates often juggle responsibilities across multiple layers of network infrastructure, such as troubleshooting connectivity issues, managing network security, and configuring both hardware and software components. One common challenge is staying updated with diverse technologies, as the role may involve everything from configuring routers and switches to supporting cloud-based networking solutions. Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams—like security, systems administration, and development—are essential to resolve issues swiftly and maintain network reliability. Adapting to rapidly evolving network protocols and security threats is also a key part of the job, making continuous learning critical for success.

Job description

Full Stack Software Engineer Build a private, scalable full-stack web platform for Cape’s privacy-first mobile service

Location: New York, New York

Compensation: $180,000 - 235,000 USD / year

About The Role Full Stack Software Engineer

Cape's platform gives customers end-to-end control of their digital identity, optimizing for resiliency, privacy, and security at every turn. We're transforming how customers sign up, use, and think about their mobile phones and the privacy implications associated with it. Customers are protected at every level of the communications stack – from the mobile device, through contested infrastructure, to the core of the network itself.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer at Cape, your mission is to provide connectivity without compromise. Your charge is to build a system that enables resilient, global connectivity with a security & privacy first mind-set that separates our users from the legacy telecom ecosystem. This includes everything from building a best-in-class signaling firewall to identify & mitigate malicious signaling attacks that compromise users' most personal communications, to detection of fake base-stations (cell-site simulators), to detecting and preventing SPAM & Smishing campaigns, and being transparent and alerting users when they may be actively targeted by hackers or nation states. Fluency across the full stack allows you to have even more ownership and agency to lead this charge.

We're hiring engineers who are passionate about solving real-world problems, personal privacy, and empowering peers to be autonomous. If you're motivated to develop reliable, highly performant, and scalable systems, and to design robust APIs and primitives, this role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on our products and the people who use them. Your day-to-day will constantly change and be filled with ambiguity, but everything you work on has a high impact.

We offer competitive compensation that is geo-adjusted based on your location, along with meaningful equity so you share in the value you help create. Salary range for this role in New York, New York is $180,000-$235,000 depending on experience and interview performance.

Our benefits include:

  • 401(k) match
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision premiums for you and your dependents
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave (for all parents, no waiting period)
  • Stipends for family-forming needs and gender-affirming care
