Job description

Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, located in Kingston, NY, is searching for a Software Engineering Manager to join our Technology Services department. MHV is currently $1.72 billion in assets and serves more than 95,000 members in seven counties. This individual will lead a team of developers building and supporting applications that power member-facing digital experiences, internal operations and core financial integrations. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with people leadership, delivery accountability and architectural discipline. This position offers a flexible work arrangement and may be performed on-site or hyrbid depending on the candidate's location and business needs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of quality, curiosity,
    and continuous improvement. Manage the full software development lifecycle, from
    requirements through deployment and long-term support
  • Oversee design and delivery of applications using Microsoft .NET technologies, modern web
    frameworks, and relational databases. Partner with business leaders, IT security, compliance, and
    operations teams to ensure solutions meet member needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure engineering best practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines,
    and secure development standards.
  • Partner with the CIO to develop a roadmap for platform enhancements related to the
    organization's delivery channels. Collaborate with the Project Steering Committee and Process
    Improvement Committee, and Business Analysts to ensure the roadmap is prioritized accurately.
    Create and execute a plan to deliver working software iteratively and continuously. Promote
    strong documentation, operational readiness, and production stability in a high-trust financial
    environment.
  • Provide insight and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, and
    design patterns, including technical development mentorship. Maintain a software architecture to
    support both immediate and long-term needs.

Performance Measurements include:
  • Demonstrating thorough knowledge and skills in developing software utilizing current programming languages, design patterns, methodologies, and platforms.
  • Maintaining the experience and proven ability to participate in a full stack development team.
  • Having the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, remove obstacles, implement effective outcomes, and provide required documentation.
  • Manages team effectively ensuring projects are delivered on-time, on-budget, and maintain a high degree of
    quality.
  • Develop team and continuously enhances their skillset to ensure team skills align with organizational and
    member needs.
  • Exhibits a high level of interpersonal, verbal communication, and empathy necessary to relate to other
    people at their systems knowledge level.
  • Maintaining a self-motivated interest in the job which includes organizing and prioritizing work without the direction from a supervisor. Consistently exhibiting commitment to the team and the delivery of value to the members of the credit union and staff. This also includes communicating the status of critical areas regularly to the appropriate parties including, but not limited to, the CTO, CEO, and Board of Directors.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Two to five years of similar or related experience in software development and leading
    software development projects.
  • (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
  • Work involves motivating and influencing other leaders and stakeholders to accomplish key organizational objectives. External contacts are vital, not only for the success of the position, but the success of the organization overall. Work involves making material presentations to the Board of Directors, community leaders, and business leaders.
  • Advanced analytical skills; ability to work independently and produce highly accurate results while working on multiple projects within strict timelines; must have advanced verbal, written and presentation skills, as well as advanced computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office); above average interpersonal skills and communication skills; must exhibit ability to think and plan strategically; ability to build cohesive, sustainable, high performance teams.
  • Candidates must be able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. A normal range of vision and hearing abilities required. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
  • Candidates must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team and being able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. They also must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics as well as speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Candidates must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Being able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace is crucial to this role, as well as being able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities and being capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
