What is a full stack Java developer?

A Full Stack Java Developer is a software professional skilled in both front-end and back-end development using Java technologies. They are proficient in building complete web applications, handling everything from designing user interfaces and user experiences to managing databases and server-side logic. Typically, they work with frameworks like Spring Boot for the backend and technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, ensuring seamless integration between the two. Full Stack Java Developers are valued for their versatility and ability to manage all aspects of the software development process.

What is a full stack Java developer?

A full stack Java developer is a web developer that uses the Java language in the development of the entire technology stack of a web-based application. The job duties of a full stack Java developer are to create both front-end components, such as user interfaces and back-end components, such as application code and databases. As a full stack Java developer, you must understand how the entire technology stack functions as a whole and have deep expertise of each component. Java is a computer programming language that has become one of the most popular for web application development.

What are the typical challenges full stack Java developers face when working on cross-functional teams?

Full Stack Java Developers often collaborate with front-end designers, back-end engineers, and QA specialists, which can lead to challenges in aligning technical requirements, timelines, and coding standards. Navigating different priorities and communication styles is common, especially when integrating new features or resolving bugs that span both client and server sides. Success in this environment requires flexibility, proactive communication, and a willingness to quickly adapt to shifting project needs or technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack Java developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Java Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java, front-end frameworks (such as Angular or React), back-end technologies, and a solid understanding of databases, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, build tools such as Maven or Gradle, and knowledge of Spring Boot or similar frameworks are typically required, along with relevant certifications. Effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are essential to deliver robust, user-friendly applications and to collaborate efficiently across the software development lifecycle.

Job description

Our client, an established player in the financial services sector, is expanding its technology team and looking for an experienced .NET Full Stack Developer. This role suits someone who has built and shipped scalable enterprise systems end to end - comfortable moving between backend services and the frontend layer using the .NET stack. A distinguishing requirement here is practical, day-to-day fluency with AI-assisted development tooling such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot (or comparable assistants), used to speed up coding, cut down on repetitive work, shorten debugging cycles, and generally streamline how software gets built

Compensation Base pay is set according to location and a range of other considerations. Where applicable by law, a role based in Montreal carries a base range of CAD $110,000-$130,000 annually, plus the benefits outlined further down. What you'll be doing Architect, code, test, and maintain full stack applications on .NET / .NET Core / ASP.NET Core

Create and refine responsive interfaces with current frontend frameworks - Angular, React, JavaScript, and TypeScript. Build dependable APIs, microservices, and backend components tailored to financial applications. Partner with product owners, business analysts, architects, and QA to ship high-quality deliverables.

Apply Copilot and other AI coding assistants across code generation, refactoring, documentation, debugging, and overall throughput. Produce clean, secure, maintainable, and clearly documented code aligned to established practices. Review peers' code and uphold coding standards and secure-development principles.

Tune applications for performance, reliability, and scale. Work across SQL Server and other relational stores, contributing to data modeling, query tuning, and integration work. Take part in CI/CD pipelines, release processes, and broader DevOps practices.

Meet the security, audit, and regulatory obligations that apply in a financial-services setting. Requirements What we're looking for Solid hands-on background across .NET Framework, .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, and ASP.NET Core. Strong C# skills

Frontend experience React (this is a must), JavaScript, and TypeScript. A track record building and consuming REST APIs and web services. Deep familiarity with SQL Server and relational database work.

Working experience with Entity Framework or other ORM tooling. Direct, practical use of GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or similar AI coding assistants. Exposure to Azure or AWS cloud environments is a plus.

Comfort with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum delivery. A firm grasp of software design fundamentals, debugging, and problem-solving. Understanding of secure coding, authentication and authorization, and data protection.

Benefits What's on offer A global organization with a presence across dozens of offices in multiple countries, and scope for international mobility. 15 days (three weeks) of paid vacation, plus a further 10 personal days (a mix of floating and sick days). Full insurance coverage spanning medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability.

A flexible hybrid working arrangement. RRSP participation with employer matching of up to 4%. Support for continuing education and professional certification.

Company-wide access to Udemy for Business, with more than 5,000 curated courses available on demand. Mentorship from seasoned colleagues in the firm's financial-innovation and centre-of-excellence teams. Work on leading-edge engagements with top-tier banks, financial institutions, and insurers.

A genuinely diverse, global, and easygoing team culture.
