AspectFull Stack Development InternshipFront End Developer Internship
Required SkillsHTML, CSS, JavaScript, backend frameworks, databasesHTML, CSS, JavaScript, UI/UX design
Work EnvironmentBoth frontend and backend tasks, collaborative projectsPrimarily UI/UX, client-side development
Industry UsageWeb development companies, startups, tech firmsWeb agencies, tech startups, digital agencies

Full Stack Development Internships involve working on both frontend and backend development, providing a comprehensive experience in web application creation. Front End Developer Internships focus specifically on user interface and client-side features. Both roles are valuable for gaining industry experience, but Full Stack roles offer broader exposure to the entire development process.

What is a full stack development internship?

A Full Stack Development Internship is a temporary training position where interns gain hands-on experience in both front-end and back-end web development. Interns work with various technologies, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, databases, and server-side languages, to build and maintain complete web applications. This role helps aspiring developers understand the software development lifecycle, collaborate with teams, and apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects. It's an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to enhance their coding skills and increase their employability in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack development intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Development Intern, you need a solid understanding of both front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end (such as Node.js, Python, or Java) development, often supported by relevant coursework or projects. Familiarity with tools like Git, databases (e.g., MySQL or MongoDB), and frameworks like React or Express.js is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and effective communication set standout interns apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing to projects, adapting to new technologies, and collaborating successfully within a development team.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a full stack development internship?

As a Full Stack Development Intern, you will typically work on both front-end and back-end components of web applications. Common tasks include building user interfaces, developing APIs, integrating databases, and collaborating with designers and senior developers to deliver features. You may also be involved in debugging, testing, and deploying code to ensure product stability. This hands-on experience offers a great opportunity to learn industry-standard tools and workflows, while contributing directly to live projects.

Full-Stack Software Engineer Innovation

Viome Life Sciences

Bellevue, WA

$120K - $140K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 29 days ago

Job description

About Viome

Viome is redefining how people understand and manage their health — using AI, molecular biology, and data science to deliver insights no one else can. We're a well-funded health-tech company based in Bellevue, WA, with the resources of an established business and the ambition of a team that believes the health industry is ready to be fundamentally disrupted. We're not here to make things slightly better. We're here to change the game.

The Role

This is not a typical engineering role. We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer who will focus entirely on moonshot innovation on the consumer side of Viome. Your job is to identify and build functional leaps — not incremental improvements — that fundamentally change how people manage their health and help Viome capture market share at a different scale.

You will work in a small, autonomous team with the mandate to think big, move fast, and ship bold ideas. If a concept can shift user behavior, unlock a new market segment, or create an experience no competitor can match — that's what you'll be building.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and build breakthrough consumer features that create step-function changes in how users interact with their health data

  • Own ideas end-to-end: from early-stage prototyping and rapid experimentation to production-grade delivery

  • Work across the full stack — frontend experiences, backend services, AI integrations — with a bias toward shipping fast and learning from real users

  • Challenge assumptions about what a health platform can be; propose and test bold product concepts that go beyond what's been done

  • Collaborate with data science, AI, and product teams to translate Viome's deep biological intelligence into consumer experiences people love

  • Operate with a test-and-learn mindset: build, measure, iterate — and kill ideas quickly when the data says so

  • Help define the engineering culture of a team that prizes creativity, speed, and outsized impact over process and predictability

Requirements
  • A builder who gets restless with incremental work — you want to create things that didn't exist before

  • 3+ years of full-stack dev experience (PHP, Capacitor, VueJS, React, React-Native, Python, or similar), familiarity with Claude Code.

  • Comfortable with multimodal apps for both web and mobile; familiar with deployment to Apple/Android stores.

  • Competence with unix shells (Linux/FreeBSD/equivalent), managing databases (Postgres/MySQL)

  • Deep comfort with ambiguity: you can take a loose idea, shape it, and turn it into something real without waiting for a spec

  • A strong sense of consumer products — you think about why something matters to a user, not just how to build it

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and bare metal installs.

  • Interest in health, wellness, or the intersection of biology and technology — you care about the mission.

Why This Role Is Different

Most engineering roles ask you to optimize what exists. This one asks you to imagine what's next. You'll have the backing of a well-funded company, access to proprietary AI and biological data that no competitor has, and the freedom to take big swings on the consumer experience. The goal is simple: build the things that make Viome unmissable.

At Viome, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. We comply with Washington State's Equal Pay and Opportunities Act (EPOA) and believe in providing fair and equitable compensation to all of our employees.

Join Viome and Enjoy a Comprehensive Benefits Package:

  • Insurance: Up to 80% employer-paid premium for individuals and 75% for families, including health (United Healthcare), dental, and vision (Guardian), plus 100% coverage for basic life, AD&D insurance, and long-term disability.

  • Flexible Time Off: We offer a flexible time-off policy to support work-life balance, allowing you to manage personal needs effectively.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Access expert advice through LifeWorks on family, work, financial, legal, and health issues, supporting your well-being beyond work.

Become part of a team that values your health, growth, and contributions to the health industry.

We believe that transparency in pay is essential to promoting fairness and accountability in our workplace. Therefore, we will provide candidates with the salary range for this position during the interview process. We also welcome and encourage candidates to discuss their compensation expectations with us during this process.

Why Viome

  • Moonshot mandate: This role exists to pursue breakthrough ideas, not roadmap tickets

  • Well-funded and stable: The resources and runway to go big — without the financial uncertainty of a typical startup

  • Small team, outsized impact: Every engineer shapes the product; no one disappears into a backlog

  • Proprietary advantage: Viome's AI and molecular data create possibilities no other company can offer

  • Comprehensive benefits: Competitive salary, strong health insurance, family-friendly benefits, and equity participation

  • Location: Bellevue, WA.   This position is in-office 5 days a week.

We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other legally protected status. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion, and are committed to creating a workplace that reflects these values.
