As a contract Full Stack Developer, you may encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new codebases, tools, and team workflows, since contract roles often require rapid onboarding. Balancing front-end and back-end tasks within tight deadlines can be demanding, especially when project requirements change or are not clearly defined. Additionally, frequent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is essential to ensure alignment and successful project delivery. Staying organized and proactive in managing your workload will help you handle these challenges effectively.

What is a Full Stack Developer Contract?

A Full Stack Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based employment arrangement where a developer is responsible for both front-end and back-end aspects of web or software development. Full stack developers are skilled in multiple technologies, enabling them to handle databases, servers, systems engineering, and client-facing interfaces. Contract roles often provide flexibility for both the employer and the developer, and can range from short-term projects to longer engagements. These positions are typically filled by experienced professionals who can quickly adapt to different technologies and project needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack Developer on contract, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in both front-end (e.g., JavaScript, HTML/CSS, frameworks like React or Angular) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, databases) development, typically demonstrated through a relevant degree or portfolio. Job description

Job Summary:
Opiniion Inc. is a resident satisfaction software company that partners with property management firms to enhance living experiences. They are seeking a Full Stack Developer to build and improve products, focusing on backend and platform development, including a migration from MongoDB to PostgreSQL.
Responsibilities:
• Write and maintain Node.js (TypeScript) API services and Python scripts.
• Architect the relational schema from our existing document-based data model.
• Design and execute a zero-downtime migration strategy (dual-write, expand-contract, and similar patterns).
• Own database performance: indexing, query analysis, and connection pooling.
• Work across MongoDB and PostgreSQL to read, process, and optimize data.
• Contribute across the full stack, from front-end product work to back-end services, as the team's priorities move.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• True full-stack range: comfortable on the front end (JavaScript or TypeScript with a modern framework, Vue preferred, React welcome) and on the back end (services and APIs in Node.js and/or Python).
• Strong SQL and solid relational data fundamentals (joins, CTEs, window functions, indexing).
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, including auth flows (OAuth, API keys, token refresh), pagination, rate limiting, and error handling.
• Comfortable in AWS (RDS, S3, ECS or Lambda, IAM basics) and using Docker for local development.
• Disciplined with Git, pull requests, CI/CD, testing, and clear documentation.
• Have shipped a production NoSQL to relational migration and can walk us through it.
• Deep PostgreSQL knowledge (JSONB, CTEs, window functions, transactions, EXPLAIN ANALYZE).
• Strong, autonomous Node.js and TypeScript skills, with a habit of putting data integrity first and speed second.
• Ownership mindset: you treat what you ship as your responsibility, not just your code. When something breaks, you care about the fix and the prevention.
• Strong communicator: you set clear expectations, surface problems early, and write things down so the team doesn't run on tribal knowledge.
• Collaborative and low-ego: you give thoughtful code reviews, help teammates through blockers, and keep learning.
• Autonomous: you can take a well-scoped problem and drive it to done, while knowing when to ask for help.
Preferred:
• Experience with schema migration tooling (we use Drizzle).
• Strong computer science fundamentals and prior backend architecture ownership.
• Experience in SaaS or other product-led software environments.
• Familiarity with MongoDB internals and NoSQL-to-relational migration patterns.
Company:
Opiniion is an industry leading resident satisfaction software. Founded in 2017, the company is headquartered in Lindon, USA, with a team of 51-200 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
