Full Stack Developer Contract information

What are some common challenges Full Stack Developers face when working on contract projects?

As a contract Full Stack Developer, you may encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new codebases, tools, and team workflows, since contract roles often require rapid onboarding. Balancing front-end and back-end tasks within tight deadlines can be demanding, especially when project requirements change or are not clearly defined. Additionally, frequent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is essential to ensure alignment and successful project delivery. Staying organized and proactive in managing your workload will help you handle these challenges effectively.

What is a Full Stack Developer Contract?

A Full Stack Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based employment arrangement where a developer is responsible for both front-end and back-end aspects of web or software development. Full stack developers are skilled in multiple technologies, enabling them to handle databases, servers, systems engineering, and client-facing interfaces. Contract roles often provide flexibility for both the employer and the developer, and can range from short-term projects to longer engagements. These positions are typically filled by experienced professionals who can quickly adapt to different technologies and project needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack Developer on contract, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in both front-end (e.g., JavaScript, HTML/CSS, frameworks like React or Angular) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, databases) development, typically demonstrated through a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and sometimes certifications in specific technologies is highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills help you collaborate effectively and deliver results within tight deadlines. These abilities ensure you can independently manage diverse project requirements and consistently deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions for clients.

As a Senior Design Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in architecting, designing, and delivering solutions such as Satellite direct-to-cell, 5G Network slicing, connected cars, and other emerging technologies. You'll work autonomously across CTO, Business, CIO, Regulatory, and Legal stakeholders to translate competing priorities into cohesive technical solutions, making critical architectural decisions that will define our network's future.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Architect and design end-to-end solutions for emerging network technologies (Satellite direct-to-cell, 5G Network slicing, connected cars) that align with TELUS's strategic roadmap and technical standards
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews and technical discussions with CTO, Business, CIO, Regulatory, and Legal stakeholders to translate LTE/5G technical aspects into business impact and gather requirements that inform architectural decisions
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, design documents, and architectural diagrams that translate complex requirements into implementable solutions, including validation of vendor compliance to industry and TELUS standards
  • Conduct lab proof-of-concept testing and interoperability testing to validate emerging technologies, evaluate vendor solutions, and identify optimization opportunities aligned with 3GPP specifications and RAN best practices
  • Proactively communicate TELUS requirements to vendors, evaluate responses, and propose solutions and feature optimization engineering guidelines that support field teams and operational excellence
  • Drive independent decision-making on architectural trade-offs, technical feasibility, and implementation approaches in a fast-paced environment, while providing technical guidance and support to engineering teams
  • Stay informed of the latest wireless technology developments (5G evolution, O-RAN, Network slicing, SDN/virtualization, AI & Machine learning) and establish design best practices that elevate the organization's technical capabilities
Qualifications

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 10+ years of experience in wireless communication industry with deep expertise across RAN, core network, and transport architecture
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with LTE/5G network design, optimization, and technology introduction across multiple network domains (RAN, core, transport)
  • Solid understanding of 3GPP specifications and how they apply across the full network stack (air interface, RRM, MM, RF compliance, core protocols)
  • Demonstrated expertise in emerging network technologies including O-RAN, V-RAN, SDN/virtualization, and cloud technology, with strong understanding of industry evolution and future network trends
  • Real-world experience architecting, designing, or implementing 5G Network slicing solutions with operators, including deep understanding of slicing architecture, orchestration, and operational models
  • Hands-on experience with Satellite direct-to-cell technology architecture and integration with terrestrial networks
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into business impact and communicate architectural decisions across diverse stakeholder groups (technical and non-technical)
  • Proactive, self-directed approach to problem-solving with ability to make independent architectural decisions in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience

GREAT-TO-HAVES

  • Exceptional ability to build relationships and influence across diverse stakeholder groups (technical and non-technical, internal and external), with proven success navigating competing priorities and driving consensus
  • Demonstrated skill in breaking down complex technical problems into understandable components and communicating solutions in a way that resonates with audiences at all levels
  • Familiarity with vendor management and RFP evaluation processes for network infrastructure and emerging technology solutions
