Job description

** Due to client requirements, applicants must be able to work on a w2 basis
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Full-Stack MERN Developer for an onsite opportunity in Chicago, Illinois. This is an immediate need for a hands-on engineer who can independently build, troubleshoot, deploy, and enhance modern web applications while contributing technical guidance across the development team.
To secure an interview, candidates should demonstrate 6-10 years of professional full-stack development experience, strong expertise across the MERN stack, advanced SQL capabilities, and practical experience deploying applications within AWS environments. Candidates should also be comfortable working onsite and operating with limited day-to-day technical supervision.
Must Haves
  • 6-10 years of professional full-stack web development experience, including significant hands-on work with MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js.
  • Advanced knowledge of JavaScript and the MERN technology stack, with experience building and supporting production applications.
  • Strong SQL expertise, including database design, data modeling, optimization, and development of complex queries.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, including services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
  • Strong command of Git-based development workflows, including branches, merges, code reviews, and pull requests.
  • Demonstrated experience with software testing, debugging, documentation, security, and code-quality standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to independently solve technical problems while collaborating effectively with developers, analysts, technical leads, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to troubleshoot escalated technical issues and mentor other technical team members.

What the Client Needs You to Do
The successful candidate will take ownership of full-stack development activities from design through deployment and ongoing production support. You will build and enhance scalable web applications, resolve complex technical issues, and help ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and maintainable.
This role also requires someone who can operate as a senior technical resource for the broader team. You will collaborate on project planning, provide guidance to other developers and analysts, identify opportunities to improve existing applications, and apply modern development practices-including AI-assisted development tools-to improve engineering productivity.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop full-stack web applications, software components, and technical modules using MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js, and SQL technologies.
  • Build, test, troubleshoot, and optimize application code to improve functionality, reliability, maintainability, and overall system performance.
  • Deliver assigned development work against project milestones while operating independently and coordinating priorities with technical leads and team members.
  • Investigate and resolve software defects, production issues, and escalated technical support requests affecting clients or internal users.
  • Analyze recurring support patterns and system behavior to identify root causes and recommend application or process improvements.
  • Manage application source code through Git workflows, maintaining disciplined branching, merging, peer review, and pull-request practices.
  • Deploy and maintain applications within AWS environments using relevant cloud services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
  • Promote engineering standards covering automated and manual testing, secure development, technical documentation, maintainable code, and development consistency.
  • Mentor and support developers and analysts by sharing technical expertise, assisting with troubleshooting, and encouraging effective engineering practices.
  • Evaluate and apply emerging technologies, including AI-enabled development tools, to streamline programming activities, accelerate delivery, and improve development efficiency.

Additional Information
This position is onsite in Chicago, Illinois, and candidates should be prepared to work from the designated office location according to the required schedule.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is preferred, particularly for teams using containerized application environments. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and modern DevOps practices will also be beneficial.
Additional experience with TypeScript or other contemporary JavaScript technologies is a plus. Candidates who have successfully incorporated AI-assisted coding and development tools into their engineering workflows will be well positioned for this role.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on development expertise with the maturity to work independently, collaborate across technical teams, mentor colleagues, and continuously improve how software is designed, delivered, and supported.
W2 employees of Overture Partners who work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for the following benefits: medical (choice of 3 plans), 401(k) starting on day one, a variety of voluntary benefits including life and disability insurance, and sick time if required by law in the worked-in state/locality.
