Job description

College Admissions Counselor and Recruiter - Santa Ana

Oak Valley College is a WASC Accredited private Christian non-profit liberal arts college with Santa Ana and Rialto campuses. The College offers a low-cost (no student loans) Bachelor of Arts in Business. Students take the program in small cohorts (25 students) and complete the full-time, year-round degree in two years and eight months. Students, on average, pay less than $2,000 per semester. Most students pay their tuition and fees through part-time jobs. Cal Grant recipients receive a full scholarship.


Reporting to the Santa Ana Campus Director, the Admissions Counselor and Recruiter is responsible for the enrollment process from lead generation to matriculation. Admissions recruitment, counseling, outreach, and application review are significant functions of this position. Additionally, we seek an individual with excellent communication skills, especially writing. 


Oak Valley College offers a rewarding opportunity to join a close-knit community of Christians. The incumbent is expected to be an active spiritual leader in their family and community and committed to continuous spiritual growth and maturity.


Oak Valley provides a modest salary with two weeks of annual paid vacation (accrual begins after 90 days of probation and is prorated based on hours worked) and two weeks of annual sick leave. Medical insurance benefits are provided after the first month and retirement benefits are available after the first year.


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Manage all aspects of the recruitment and admissions process from lead generation through enrollment (60%)
  • Perform general administrative functions (20%)
  • Other duties as assigned (20%)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Promote the mission, vision, and identity of Oak Valley College
  • Develop relationships with high school guidance counselors, AVID teachers, Christian clubs, Christian affiliated networks, especially youth/young adult pastors.
  • Implement recruiting strategies as directed.
  • Schedule and attend recruitment activities and make presentations at high schools, churches, college fairs, and community events
  • Contact prospective students, parents, and referral sources via phone, email, and social media.
  • Coordinate on-campus and off-site visit programs.
  • Cultivate and conduct on-campus appointments and tours for prospective students and parents.
  • Counsel applicants through the admission process, including the financial aid awarding process, academic counseling, and financial obligations
  • Gather and produce materials (photos, videos, and stories) for posts on social media and the website.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as updating and maintaining database records, managing prospective student records, and working with other staff to identify administrative needs as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Christian - As a Christian college, qualified candidates must be Christian
  • This is an hourly position, where the incumbent is expected to work, on average, 30-40 hours per week, on campus 9 am-5 pm Monday-Thursday (unless otherwise scheduled to present at schools or community groups), with occasional evening and weekend work required
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in admissions, recruitment, education, public relations, or marketing preferred
  • Experience in customer relations and service
  • Experience making public presentations to groups (10-30+ people)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to students, parents, staff, administration, faculty, high school/community college representatives, and pastors
  • Collaborative, solid, and team-oriented interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, organized and efficient
  • Ability to work independently, handle large volumes of work, and multitask with interruptions
  • Ability to handle information in a confidential and professional manner
  • Computer proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office
  • Reliable transportation (valid driver’s license and insurance)
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
  • Ability to work outside and in varied public environments (prolonged periods of standing/sitting and moving around)
