Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Analyst/Senior Analyst - Indirect Taxes will be responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of company-wide sales/use, property, motor fuel, and other operating taxes

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 4+ years of general tax, accounting, or finance experience; indirect tax experience (sales/use, property, motor fuel) preferred).
  • Knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and reporting requirements as they relate to indirect and other operating taxes
  • Ability to perform tax research, interpret tax law, and communicate findings to internal stakeholders
  • Detail oriented and results driven
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Oracle Financials experience a plus
  • Energy industry experience a plus
  • Fluent in English, oral and written, required
  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Sales/Use Tax

  • Oversee and perform the preparation and submission of all sales/use tax returns for the various operating entities
  • Maintain and update sales/use tax taxability matrices with respect to the Company's product sales and purchases
  • Assist with analyzing, configuring, and maintaining tax software
  • Research, analyze, and respond to taxability inquiries from the various operating entities
  • Assist with delivering sales/use tax training across the organization
  • Review, validate, and maintain new and existing customer exemption certificates

Property Tax

  • Responsible for property tax compliance administration, including gathering/creating documentation, reports, and other relevant information
  • Responsible for timely submission of property tax reports, renditions, and other mandatory forms required by the various taxing authorities
  • Ensure the accurate and timely payment of all property tax bills issued by the taxing authorities
  • Assist with the preparation of annual property tax budgets
  • Assist with property tax appeals as needed

Motor Fuel Tax

  • Assist with the preparation and timely submission of various motor fuel tax returns and related reports
  • Support reconciliation of motor fuel tax accounts and resolution of related notices
  • Monitor motor fuel tax rate changes and reporting requirements across applicable jurisdictions

Other

  • Identify opportunities to minimize the company's sales/use, property, and motor fuel tax liability
  • Interact with tax authorities in audits, examinations, and appeals related to sales/use, property, motor fuel, and other operating taxes
  • Assist with resolving tax notices
  • Assist with identifying opportunities for process improvements within the Tax Department and implementation of such improvements
  • Monitor applicable indirect tax legislative developments and law changes relevant to the Company's business operations
  • Document SOX 404 processes and procedures and ensure such processes and procedures are followed for the respective areas of responsibility
  • Reconcile indirect tax accounts and prepare journal entries
  • Update and maintain Company directives for indirect tax processes and procedures
  • Other special projects and tasks as needed

  • Timely and accurate reporting of sales/use, property, and motor fuel tax filings
  • Regular communication and assistance to the field and facilities on new and updated operating tax matters
  • Effective communication and customer service to internal clients
  • Adherence to company policies and procedures
