Position Summary

The Coal Analyst supports the coal, railcar, and transportation portfolios through planning, execution, analytics, and partner coordination. The role serves as a developmental position designed to build strategic planning capabilities, commercial awareness, and external relationship management experience while providing critical support for fuel supply operations and financial performance.

General Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain monthly coal shipment and delivery plans based on procurement strategy.
  • Update forward plans monitoring generation performance, inventory positions, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor and manage non-plan adherence issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure fuel supply reliability and inventory targets are maintained
  • Monitor railroad cycle performance and communicate variances to leadership.
  • Coordinate resolution of small impact operational issues with railroad partners.
  • Execute planned railcar maintenance schedules.
  • Perform weekly and monthly railcar fleet tracing and status reviews.
  • Update recurring reports supporting portfolio performance and monitoring.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support commercial and operational decisions.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with railroads, railcar service providers, and other external partners.
  • Participate in operational discussions and issue resolution.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.
  • Bachalors degree required with 2 years of corporate work experience preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic analytics background.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn commercial strategy and portfolio ownership.
  • 5 days in office
