Quality Control & Safety Manager to oversee quality, safety, and field performance for our Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction operations. This is a hands-on field position requiring frequent travel throughout active construction areas.

The QC & Safety Manager will conduct field quality inspections and safety audits, identify deficiencies, ensure work is completed according to company, customer, engineering, and industry standards, and work directly with field technicians and crews to improve workmanship and productivity.

This position is not limited to identifying problems—the successful candidate will be expected to coach and train technicians in the field, demonstrate proper installation techniques, and help crews correct issues while work is being performed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform regular field inspections of FTTH construction and installation activities.
• Inspect fiber installation, closures, terminals, pedestals, cabinets, handholes, underground and aerial construction.
• Verify workmanship meets company, engineering, customer, and applicable industry standards.
• Identify construction and installation deficiencies and document corrective actions.
• Conduct random and scheduled quality audits on technicians and construction crews.
• Review completed work for accuracy, cleanliness, functionality, and compliance.
• Track recurring quality issues and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Work with supervisors and technicians to resolve quality problems quickly.
• Verify corrective work has been completed properly before closing deficiencies.
• Maintain accurate QC inspection records, photographs, reports, and documentation.

Field Training & Technician Development

• Train and coach technicians directly in the field.
• Demonstrate proper fiber construction and installation practices when deficiencies are identified.
• Provide handson instruction regarding workmanship, installation procedures, testing, documentation, and customerfacing work.
• Conduct toolbox talks, quality meetings, and field training sessions.
• Identify technicians who need additional training or performance improvement.
• Develop and reinforce standard work practices and quality expectations.
• Help new technicians understand company procedures and FTTH construction standards.
• Promote a culture where technicians take ownership of the quality of their work.
Safety
• Conduct regular field safety audits and inspections.
• Ensure crews are following company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
• Identify unsafe working conditions and immediately address hazards.
• Verify proper use of PPE, fall protection, traffic control, trench/excavation safety, ladders, tools, vehicles, and other required safety equipment.
• Observe work practices and provide immediate coaching when unsafe behavior is identified.
• Participate in incident and nearmiss investigations when required.
• Document safety violations, corrective actions, and followup inspections.
• Work closely with field leadership to continuously improve the company's safety culture.
• Stop work when an immediate and serious safety hazard exists.
Field Operations
• Travel to active FTTH construction sites on a regular basis.
• Work closely with project managers, field supervisors, foremen, technicians, contractors, and customers.
• Monitor construction progress and identify issues that could affect quality, schedule, or customer satisfaction.
• Communicate field conditions and recurring issues to management.
• Assist operations leadership in developing corrective action plans.
• Ensure technicians understand expectations before work is considered complete.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with aerial and underground fiber construction.
• Experience with fiber testing equipment such as OTDRs and power meters.
• Fiber optic certifications or industry training.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with utility locating, excavation, traffic control, or poleline safety.
• Previous experience as a fiber technician, lead technician, foreman, supervisor, QC inspector, or construction manager.
• Experience working with major telecommunications carriers or FTTH contractors.
• Familiarity with GIS, digital workorder systems, construction management software, or electronic inspection platforms.

• Help establish consistent workmanship standards across all crews.
• Reduce safety incidents and unsafe work practices.
• Support management in maintaining high customer and construction standards.
Physical & Field Requirements

This is a hands-on field position. The employee must be able to:

• Travel between multiple construction sites during the workweek.
• Walk construction sites and uneven terrain.
• Work around aerial and underground telecommunications construction.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Climb or access work areas when required and when properly trained and equipped.
• Observe technicians performing physical installation work.
• Safely access construction areas while following all required PPE and safety procedures.

The Quality Control & Safety Manager will serve as a key link between field technicians and management, ensuring that quality and safety are built into the work—not inspected in after the fact.
