Position Summary

The CNC Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC lathe equipment to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications. This role ensures parts meet dimensional accuracy, quality standards, and production timelines while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation & Setup
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes (including tooling, offsets, and workholding).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and GD&T requirements.
  • Adjust machine controls, tool offsets, and cutting parameters to maintain part accuracy.
  • Perform first-article inspections and verify dimensions throughout production runs.
  • Change tooling, inserts, and fixtures as needed for different jobs.
Quality & Inspection
  • Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Inspect parts during and after machining to ensure compliance with tolerances.
  • Identify and correct dimensional issues, tool wear, or machining inconsistencies.
  • Document scrap, rework, and deviations according to company procedures.
Production & Workflow
  • Run production jobs efficiently while minimizing downtime.
  • Maintain accurate counts, completions, and scrap entries in MIE Track.
  • Communicate with the Machine Shop Supervisor regarding job status, tooling needs, or machine issues.
  • Support continuous workflow between machining, QC, assembly, and shipping.
Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform basic machine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, coolant checks).
  • Report mechanical issues or needed repairs immediately.
  • Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, and machine guarding procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area.
Continuous Improvement
  • Suggest improvements to machining processes, tooling, or setups.
  • Support training and cross‑training efforts within the machine shop.
  • Participate in problem‑solving for quality or production challenges.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of CNC lathe machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of tooling, speeds/feeds, and machining principles.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with MIE Track or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Ability to lift 30–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
