We have an exciting FSQA Harvest Specialistopportunity.The FSQA Harvest Specialist is responsible for the evaluation of carcasses in a fresh pork facility harvesting over 20,500 animals per day. The position works closely with USDA inspectors to assess findings and disposition carcasses with pathological concerns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for having a high level of expertise and knowledge regarding pathological diseases impacting food safety
  • Must maintain a current certification in plant's NSIS training
  • Ability to trim heads, evaluate viscera and carcasses for dressing and pathological defects
  • Interact daily with plant management, employees, and government officials.
  • Maintain an excellent understanding of new and current federal, state, and local regulations affecting food safety requirements associated with manufacturing, processing and packing, distribution etc., (HACCP, SSOPs and GMPs).
  • Responsible for providing support to the FSQA management team on special projects and activities related to food safety and product quality.
  • Assist in development and enhancement of department programs and procedures.
  • Complete understanding of the organization's software systems (Safety Chain, M3, Carlisle, etc.) utilized to monitor/audit the production environment.
  • Adhere to all Company, state and federal workplace safety and food safety regulations

QUALIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in meat science, food science, microbiology, engineering, or related discipline with two (2) years of progressively responsible positions or five (5) years of progressively responsible positions in the meat/pork industry.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of current and application of USDA and FSIS directives and regulatory requirements.
  • Must have adequate experience to demonstrate thorough knowledge, skills and abilities of both commercial and technical aspects related to FSQA for the pork business.
  • Additional essential duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to hot, cold and/or humid conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and is frequently exposed to animal waste and animal dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring hearing protection in all protection areas.
