Job description

We are an established and respected General Contracting Company seeking an experienced Commercial Carpenter with construction experience to fill a key role in the Escondido, CA area. The selected candidate will excel at organization, communication, administrative tasks, and time management. Position Summary
The Commercial Carpenter is responsible for executing a range of skilled tasks on commercial remodeling projects, including demolition, framing, millwork, FRP, and laminate installation. This role supports the Lead Carpenter in layout and measurement duties, operates tools safely, and contributes to maintaining an organized and efficient job site. The Carpenter is expected to perform tasks with increasing independence and precision while upholding quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform demolition, framing, millwork installation, FRP installation, laminate installation, fixture modifications, and finish carpentry according to project specifications and Walmart standards.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist with layout, measurements, and material planning under the direction of the Lead Carpenter.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and layouts to complete assigned work.
  • Work efficiently in active retail environments while minimizing disruption to store operations, customers, and associates.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.
  • Coordinate work activities with other trades to support project schedules and completion milestones.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, material needs, and potential schedule impacts to field leadership.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, project briefings, and task planning activities.
  • Support a positive team culture focused on safety, accountability, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with Walmart management, store associates, vendors, customers, and project stakeholders.
  • Execute assigned tasks with a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and increasing independence.

Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience in commercial, retail, or big-box construction environments.
  • Experience performing demolition, framing, finish carpentry, millwork installation, FRP installation, laminate installation, and related carpentry tasks.
  • Proven experience working on active construction sites with multiple trades and fast-paced project schedules.
  • Experience working in occupied retail environments, store remodels, or tenant improvement projects.
  • Experience working on Walmart remodels, store refreshes, retail rollouts, or similar big-box retail construction projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and layouts.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and safe construction practices.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work for extended periods on active construction sites.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and operate elevated work platforms as required.
  • Capable of working in varied indoor and outdoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.

Preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience mentoring junior carpenters and supporting crew development.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, or scissor lift certifications.
