Job description

Who we are

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Manager, IT Architecture & DevOps, we are hiring a Web & Automations Developer to support and evolve Yorkville University's digital ecosystem. As our new Web & Automations Developer, you will divide your time between enhancing and maintaining our WordPress environment and designing automations, integrations, and low-code solutions that improve business processes across the organization. Working closely with Marketing, Information Technology Services, and stakeholders across the university, you will build secure, scalable, and user-friendly solutions that strengthen both the digital experience and operational efficiency. You will support and enhance existing WordPress websites and custom PHP code, while also helping expand the use of Microsoft Power Platform, workflow automation, and system integrations.

This is an existing, full-time role, working 2 days remotely and 3 days on-site at 85 Richmond Street West, with a move to our new headquarters at 120 Bloor Street East in 2027.

What's in it for you

Impact. Your work will directly influence how prospective students, current learners, and internal teams interact with Yorkville University's digital platforms. From enhancing website experiences to streamlining business processes through automation, you will build solutions that improve both user experience and operational efficiency across the organization.

Growth and evolution. This role offers the opportunity to expand beyond traditional web development. You will work across WordPress, Microsoft Power Platform, integrations, and workflow automation, developing new skills while contributing to the university's broader digital transformation initiatives. Whether your background is primarily in web development or automation, you will have the opportunity to broaden your expertise and increase your impact.

Innovation. This role sits at the intersection of web development, automation, and digital transformation. You will help evaluate new technologies, contribute to the evolution of the university's web platform, and identify opportunities to automate processes and improve how systems work together. Your ideas and technical expertise will help shape future solutions rather than simply maintain existing ones.

How you will make an impact

  • Enhance and evolve our web presence. You will develop, maintain, and optimize Yorkville University's WordPress websites, building custom components, templates, and functionality that support the Marketing team's goals while ensuring websites remain secure, accessible, performant, and easy to maintain.
  • Support and modernize existing solutions. You will work within an established WordPress environment, troubleshooting, enhancing, and maintaining custom PHP code and legacy functionality. You will identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, scalability, and the overall user experience.
  • Build automations and integrations. You will design and implement workflows, integrations, and business process automations using Microsoft Power Platform and related technologies. Your work will help reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and connect systems across the organization.
  • Develop solutions that support digital transformation. You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate requirements into practical technical solutions, including low-code applications, workflow automations, and integrations that improve how teams work and access information.
  • Contribute to future platform strategy. You will play a key role in evaluating, implementing, and supporting future website and automation technologies. This includes contributing to platform modernization initiatives, supporting migrations, and helping reduce long-term complexity while improving flexibility for internal users.
  • Collaborate across teams. You will partner with Marketing, Information Technology Services, and business stakeholders to design, test, and deliver solutions that meet business needs while aligning with security, governance, and technical standards.
  • Support operational excellence. You will follow DevOps and secure development practices, manage code and deployments responsibly, and provide technical support and troubleshooting for website and automation-related issues as needed.

What you bring

  • The web development expertise. You have experience developing and maintaining WordPress websites, including building and working with custom themes, plugins, templates, and reusable components. You are comfortable working within existing codebases, enhancing functionality, troubleshooting issues, and balancing technical requirements with user experience and business needs. You have strong PHP, CSS/SCSS, Javascript, jQuery and SQL development skills and a solid understanding of web development code repositories and best practices related to security, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
  • The automation and integration experience. You have experience building workflows, automations, or integrations using Microsoft Power Platform or similar technologies. You understand how systems connect through APIs and data integrations and are motivated by opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and improve operational efficiency through technology.
  • The technical curiosity. You enjoy learning new technologies, solving complex problems, and working through challenges independently. You are comfortable navigating unfamiliar systems, maintaining and improving legacy solutions, and identifying opportunities to modernize processes and platforms. Experience with Azure, low-code application development, or enterprise system integrations would be considered an asset.
  • The collaborative approach. You can translate technical concepts into practical solutions and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You build strong relationships across teams, ask thoughtful questions, and enjoy partnering with colleagues to understand requirements, solve problems, and deliver solutions that create value for the organization.
