Job description

User Experience Design Internship 

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is looking for an enthusiastic newcomer to UX, focusing on learning fundamental design principles, receiving mentorship, and building a portfolio through hands-on project experience.  You will work with product managersand engineers to decide how the users will interact with the product.

A Day in the Life: 

Get experience supporting systems and delivering services to users at Church headquarters and millions of users throughout the world. 

  • Design and prototype front-end web experiences based on user-centered principles. 

  • Translate user insights into high-quality, intuitive designs through iterative feedback. 

  • Create mockups and wireframes using modern design tools and techniques. 

  • Ensure all materials align with Church branding and visual standards. 

  • Apply visual design fundamentals such as layout, typography, and iconography. 

  • Collaborate in agile teams with designers, engineers, and product managers. 

  • Support product launches through training materials, awareness efforts, and communications. 

  • Participate in design critiques and team brainstorming to improve outcomes. 

  • Conduct basic user research methods such as interviews and usability feedback. 

  • Work with state-of-the-art technologies on enterprise-level solutions. 

  • Receive mentorship from experienced UX and IT professionals. 

  • Contribute to a creative, spiritual, and motivated team helping to hasten the Lord's work. 

About: 

This internship position represents anexciting opportunity to work for one of the largest information technology centers in the Wasatch front. This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

Full time interns can enroll in a high deductible medical plan 

Work Schedule: 

This is a 40 hour per week internship that is expected to last approximately 4 months.  Normal office hours are between 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday. 

The offices are located in either Riverton, UT or Lehi, UT.  Remote or hybrid options are available.

Fall Recruiting Cycle 

  • Applications & Interviews: September through October 

  • Interview Process: Each interview is conducted by a hiring manager aligned with your specific internship opportunity. 

  • Candidate Selection: After interviews conclude, candidate evaluations are shared with all hiring managers recruiting for that internship type. Managers then make their selections. We typically hire between 5 and 30 interns per internship discipline, and strong candidates may receive interest from multiple teams. 

  • Offers Extended: November through early December 

  • Internship Start Dates: January and May

You must have a portfolio and attach it to your application, or provide the URL on your resume. 

  • You should be currently enrolled or within one year of your graduation date from an accredited college or university. 

  • Must be a temple-worthy member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

  • Portfolio of UX or design work. 

  • Basic knowledge of user-centered design, UI/UX principles, and interaction design. 

  • Experience creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes. 

  • Familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design techniques (Ajax, XML, mobile, etc.). 

  • Understanding of branding, layout, typography, iconography, and design consistency. 

  • Strong communication and presentation skills; able to explain design ideas clearly. 

  • Collaborative, self-motivated, and able to manage tasks independently. 

  • Creative thinker with solid problem-solving and conceptual design skills. 

  • Project management experience is a plus. 

  • Background in technology, marketing, or content strategy is helpful. 

  • Relevant coursework preferred: 

  • CS 471 - User Interface Evaluation and Design 

  • CS 371 - Human-Computer Interaction 

  • ART 337 - User Experience Design 

  • Or equivalent
