SimIS, Inc. is seeking Artificial Intelligence Developer Intern to:
  • Develop and train Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to help automate processes for Aerospace/Aviation Machine Language (ML) tool development. Duties include designing and programming AI systems, testing the ML tools and processes developed, working with autonomous systems, and resolving issues with algorithms and data to ensure the system works correctly.
  • Evaluate machine learning processes to enhance automation.
  • Collect and analyze large amounts of data to identify trends, ambiguities, and inconsistencies using data analytics.
  • Program knowledge and some experience with AI software utilizing large amounts of data. Managing the data, project infrastructure, and supporting the development of the most effective and efficient AI software architecture.
  • Knowledge and some skill developing and deploying AI algorithms with an understanding of how artificial intelligence works.
  • Ability to build containerized application tools following the 12 Factor App methodology, Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) concepts, and Extreme Programming (XP).
  • Collaborating with other team members to establish goals for AI processes. Develop products as part of a balanced Agile development team to include Product Manager, Product Owner, engineers, developers, cyber specialist, and scientists and drive technical feasibility for the product backlog.
  • Experience and knowledge with various AI tools such as Tabnine, GitHub Copilot, CHATGBT, Google Bard, Perplexity AI, Claude, Cursor AI, Softr, Microsoft Power Apps, Codeium, Amazon CodeWhisperer, Quickbase, Airtable Cobuilder, Databutton, AutoNav, ExoMiner, MLNav, ASPEN, MAPGEN, Prithvi and Tensorflow are desired.
  • Staying up to date on the latest AI developments with an understanding of data science.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in full-stack JavaScript/Python/Java/C/C++/C# development, front-end development (e.g., React, Angular, HTML, HTML5, JS, CSS, SASS, etc…), back-end development (e.g., Node.js, Django/Flask, SpringBoot, etc…), and database design and programming (mySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc…).
  • Aptitude for math, statistics, and NASA’s core mission areas - aeronautics, exploration systems, science, space operations, and space technology, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in coding languages and software programming.
  • Robust teamwork, communication and collaboration skills with ambitious self-motivation attitude and honed attention to detail and concentration competence.
  • Able to support the management of third-party cloud computing platforms, including architectural design, access controls, cost-effective usage monitoring; cloud security (e.g., hardening, authentication, authorization).
  • Able to use distributed learning specifications (e.g., SCORM, xAPI, Dublin Core) and familiarity with virtualization software and virtualized server implementations.
  • Able to collaboratively develop and maintain software (e.g., via GitHub), develop software technical documentation and user guides, find, and fix software bugs, and have familiarity with standard web security (e.g., SSL certificates, OAuth).
  • Able to pick up and learn new languages and frameworks.
  • Adopts industry best practices, with a security first mindset and understands DevSecOps principles.
  • Fluent in English and skills in written and oral communication.
  • Candidate must be working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in a related field, such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics or data science. Experience as an AI Developer/Engineer is highly desired.
  • This is an on-site position which will require duty on-site in Suffolk, VA with an expected 14 – 16 hour/week work schedule. This position may have some latitude to authorize work from home dependent on project assigned.
