Job description

Location: This hybrid role requires 3 days on-site at our Burnaby, BC office and 2 days remote per week. To support onboarding, the successful student will be expected to work on-site full-time during their first two weeks before transitioning to the regular hybrid schedule.

Term Length: We welcome applications from students available for either a 4-month or 8-month co-op/work-integrated learning (WIL) placement.

Start Date: September 7, 2026.

What You'll Do

The Commercial Finance Intern will centre around supporting the team with data gathering and cleansing as well as providing analysis and feedback on a variety of data sets. You will be responsible for maintaining data accuracy and providing insight through reporting and trend analysis. The business will support you with meaningful experience into how these insights drive business decisions in a hyper-growth retail environment. 

There will also be opportunity to assist the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks and other support as necessary.  The Commercial Finance team at Specsavers supports the business achieve financial targets by connecting financial analysis with commercial, front-end decision making. Commercial finance partners with all business areas to ensure leadership has accurate data and confidence to improve business performance.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Support data model development by testing and validating across data sources to ensure complete and accurate information, such as:
    • Validate accuracy of Retail POS data including sample testing 
    • Reconcile of Retail POS data to accounting records
    • Validate accuracy of promotional codes in POS data
    • Validate calculated KPIs across data sets to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Assist with weekly and monthly performance reporting
  • Support financial analysis by gathering information on sales, purchases and pricing data
  • Support the corporate budgeting process on an ad hoc basis
  • Other finance/accounting support as needed

 

What We're Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in a Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Enrolled in a recognized co-op program and undertaking a work-integrated learning (WIL) placement that is connected to a course, degree, certificate, diploma, or other recognized program.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Excel through coursework and project work, including experience organizing, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through academic projects and team environments, with a collaborative approach and a proactive mindset.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Nice-to-have:

  • Tech Savviness and being comfortable learning new tools and models quickly 
  • Curiosity and show a strong desire to understand the "why" behind work 

Compensation: $23/hr - $27/hr. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience.
